Hugo offers a new kind of budget car insurance policy to citizens of California. With Hugo, customers literally have to pay only for days they are driving. They can turn the policy on and off via text message, and the company will only charge them for used days out of a prepaid bank. The company offers the minimum liability requirements for the state, which covers them for damage to other people and property if they are in an accident. In the event of an accident, customers need only text "accident" to the company and the proof of insurance will be sent to their mobile device. Although this is an innovative new program, Hugo is a new company and there is not any information in terms of customer experience.

Hugo's coverage is the minimum required by California law (CIC §11580.1b). It is a liability policy that pays the other party for bodily or property damage. The policy pays up to $15,000 if one person is injured or killed or up to $30,000 if more than one person is injured or killed. Additionally, it will pay out up to $5,000 for property damage. Keep in mind that this coverage will not cover you or your car, even if the accident wasn't your fault. Also, it will not work for leased or financed cars.

It is difficult to evaluate the customer satisfaction and claims experience for Hugo Insurance. The company itself is fairly new and so far only operates in California. Hugo has no BBB or Trustpilot entry, and not much in the way of online reviews. However, this is not surprising given its short history. Although there are no specifics in terms of pricing, Hugo's entire business model is based on providing customers with the most inexpensive insurance possible. Their one policy is the minimum liability requirement to drive in California. What's more, customers can turn coverage on and off depending on which days they are driving. So for instance the policy can be paused when a car is in the shop for a week, resulting in a lower monthly premium. Additionally, customers pre pay their coverage with Hugo, adding to their account when it is low or whenever they want. Hugo will notify the customer when they have only one more day's worth of coverage in their account. There are no late fees and a customer has 10 days to reimburse the balance in their account before Hugo discontinues their policy.

Been with them like a year I don’t like humanit enuff to tell y’all what happened just kno iaint lying on honest companies that DONT exist find another company or u WILL REGRET IT like me a lot of shady practice sickening to say the least today my last day as a customer and I’m leaving reviews everywhere y’all gone screw me over ok cool let’s get even BBB next smh. I like the flexibility and efficiency in obtaining insurance, but it is a definite draw back when you can't speak to someone. I had an emergency situation, late at night when someone ran me off the road. I needed to get in touch with a representative a Hugo for tow service and/or a new tire to get home. Needless to say, more than 4 hours went by. I was livid and it was not a safe situation. I guess this is what I'm paying for and since that's the case, I will have to pay more somewhere else. Hugo is okay, but they MUST step up in customer service and being reachable.

Hugo Car Insurance review I wanted to make a payment to Hugo but realized I lost my membership number. It has been a real pain to get a hold of someone to help. I found several different telephone numbers (3 to be exact) and all of them were a dead end. I also tried emailing them twice. This is the first time I've tried to pay my bill since signing on with them. I know my insurance has lapsed. Until I can make a payment I'll be in real trouble if there is an accident, or I get pulled over by the police. I did my homework. Hugo has been highly rated from several sources. But what good is it if there is no communication when you need help.
