While the loan process is very fast and transparent and the customer service is good, the overall practices after the mortgage and escrow have been done are extremely poor. They do not allow you bring your escrow account to the where it needs to be if you have the cash that year and make you raise your mortgage payment. They also do not allow you to make weekly payments on your mortgage and claim that their system does not recognize anything but full payments. This is a company that keeps you in debt and does not allow you get ahead to reduce your financial obligations so they can line the pockets of their executives for keeping you in the dark. Horrible customer service, became customer courtesy of a broker approximately 18 months ago and getting a simple question answered regarding sending additional escrow funds has been ridiculously difficult. You constantly get recycled to it’s automated voice service and if and when you’re lucky enough to speak with a live person, that person sounds as if they are either under the influence or working from home and was just awakened. The person continued to repeat my balance and my next payment amount and due date which is no different from the automated voice service.
I was hit by a tornado. When that happens the insurance company sends all the money to your lender's loss draft department to release to you as repairs are done.
My experience with CrossCountry through this process has been awful. They take days to respond or do not respond at all. When they do they email you documents that make you feel like you're drinking out of a fire-hose.
Ive had 3 homes with 3 mortgages. I always setup auto draft and never thought much about there customer service.
This disaster has shown me how it can be important and i wish I had another lender.
CrossCountry Mortgage is HORRIBLE and, out of the three houses I bought in my life, this was definitely the worst experience I had. Indeed, I would go as far as saying that the process of getting a mortgage with CCM was THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. As mentioned by others here, CCM asks for a lot more documentation than any other company, they don’t tell you much about the mortgage requirements at any point, are slow at replying to questions and, as also pointed by other reviewers, they keep changing conditions until the last second (this is not a company for those faint of heart). The branch in Smyrna Ga ran by Wesley Murphy is horrible I would never recommend.
If I had written this review six months ago, it would be five stars. CrossCountry was extremely helpful through the process of setting up my first mortgage, explained everything I needed to know about how it all works, and worked with me to lock in a low interest rate. I was a very satisfied customer until they decided to charge me for their own mistake. CrossCountry claimed to not receive the bill for my flood insurance, and when they finally informed me and I sent them the copy I'd received, it was two weeks before the policy expired. I had an absolutely awful, nightmare of an experience with Cross Country Mortgage (Doug Brown loan officer). It was similar to what Snehal said as well. This was a $100K loan on a $355K house - we were putting 255K down. The ridiculous amount of paperwork and documentation was stressful and way overkill. They requested so much documentation, at least 20x what I've ever had to provide for any other real estate loan in my life. Both of us buyers are self employed, so I'll allow for the fact that makes it more complicated and more documentation required. RUN! Don't use them! We might have to sell our house overusing them. We refinance our home with them to lower our payment by $300 a month. They had their own inspector inspect our house. Their inspector said we needed a new roof, causing our hurricane insurance company to drop us without us knowing. Then they added their bank hurricane insurance without telling us. our payment went from $1,400 a month to $3,000 a month!!! No insurance company would touch us because of their false report. I hired a 3rd party inspection company to do a 4 point inspection and wind mitigation and our roof is FINE! It has over 5 years still left on it. Cross Country mortgage is an absolute nightmare. Their local office did a great job with getting my mortgage done. My house was $537K and after purchase i invested about $200K in renovations. Since I did a 10% mortgage I requested and paid for a new appraisal for PMI removal. The company that was hired to do my appraisal sent someone who wasn't the appraiser to take pictures of my property...The appraiser never stepped foot into my property. When the appraisal was recieved i was 0.02% short of my PMI removal, yet homes unrenovated in my community are selling for $100K+ more than my appraisal came in at. Our condominium worked with a local office and spoke with Patrick Bolek ( Loan Processor) who requested a questionnaire filled out for a potential client. I advised him of the fee the Condo Association charges for this and he agreed to pay it. I have a copy of all of the email correspondence that will confirm this. The unit closed in June but we have not received any payment! I spoke to him several times requesting our payment and was told on 8-12-2021 at 3:30pm that I need to call the owner and collect the money. I will be calling the better Business Bureau to register a complaint as well as try to reach someone else at the CrossCountry Mortgage to get the money due to us.
Spoke with two different agents. Both sounded like used car salesmen, extremely high-pressure. When I asked any kind of question, for example, a break-out of the number they had just given, instead of answering the question, they gave a long-winded spiel about how many good things they were going to do for me. Another thing they would do instead of answering a question was say, "but how do you feel about saving $x? I need to hear more excitement!" Seriously?!!!
I have emails and texts to back up everything I state here. I should have known when the loan officer started off like a used car salesman telling me if I went with him today he would give me a considerably lower rate than anyone else had originally quoted, including himself. I have almost perfect credit (over 800) and no debt at all. Nothing seemed to be progressing after the first week even though I had submitted everything they asked for on the same day each time they asked for it. On Dec 1, 2020 we spoke to Julia Engman, from CrossCounrty Mortgage. We wanted to re-finance our home and take some cash out. I explained our situation; new company, husband and wife as employees, etc. I had already been turned down for these very reasons by another lender. Julie led me through the process of document submission, various scenarios for points and interest, and answered all my questions. Lengthy but worth the read. Sounds like other reviews I see here. We went binding with sellers to purchase a home on December 16, 2020 using this company. USDA product. It is now March 18, 2021 and this loan has not closed. An error was made by the loan agent of Cross Country Mortgage in Newnan, Georgia. After 2 months of all parties being told there was an issue with a USDA backlog, when in fact the loan agent made an error that was the cause for the delay, she told no one until it was uncovered it in early March 3 months later! Michael Massimi, the mortgage broker working for CrossCountry Mortgage, has lied to us. Instead of doing the competent work, he assured us the we would get a loan and we proceeded with a contract to buy a house. We spent $650 on home inspection, $1000 on attorney, $350 on oil tank inspection and $600 on house appraisal only to learn that in the end the CrossCountry has rejected us. Before we learned about that, we also went ahead and cancelled our apartment lease and started packing. Since the loan origination was delayed by one month, the seller pushed us to pay $250 per day in delay fees. Of course, Michael Massimi has disappeared and couldn't get in touch for comment. I WOULD CAUTION YOU ABOUT GOING WITH THIS LENDER! They are unprofessional at best. Here is why I say this: I initially was speaking to one individual and we discussed what he would need as far as documentation for a refinance. All was well until a second individual, 3 days later, sent me an e-mail and began telling me he needs 2 months of my bank statements, etc. I had already linked my bank account to these people and the first individual was well aware of that, evidently the second was not. I am experiencing the same poor quality of closing difficulties with this company. I wish I had come here to read these comments before I had gone into a contract with them. They are incompetent and liars. Now I feel as if I should just back out. I have been doing a refi with them since August of 2020 it is now October and we still cannot close. Not good.
Very responsive and helpful. Excellent team to work with. We wouldn’t hesitate to use their services against.
Horrible service, after I completed the application and spoke to Charles Elswick on the phone, he mentioned he would get back to me. He never did. Charles didn't have the courtesy of calling/emailing me back at all. I email and called him several times but no response. No one in CrossCountry Mortgage was able to assist me as he was the lender I originated the application.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! CrossCountry Mortgage completely ruined my first home buying experience. On the day of our closing (July 10th), which was after our original deadline, CrossCountry had not given any of the closing documents to the title company. We ended up having to wait in the lobby of the title company for FOUR hours while our movers sat outside our new house, getting paid by the hour. This whole process started with Gary an HMC wit Cross Country mortgage who reached out to my grandmother to solicit his services to help her get out of her reverse mortgage making promises he couldn’t keep and misleading her and providing her misinformation about the process of what he could actually due. My girlfriend and I were brought into the process later so we could purchase the home from the reverse mortgage company. THIS COMPANY TOLD ME TO KEEP MY ESCROW MONEY FROM MY PREVIOUS ACCT. SO I DID THE GUY KEPT SAYING KEEP IT ITS YOURS SO I DID
WELL ON MY LOAN THEY FORGOT TO PUT MY INSURANCE AND TAXES IN MY PAYMENTS CONVENIENTLY. SO THERE WAS A SHORTAGE IN MY ESCROW ACCT AND THEY RAISED MY PAYMENT ALMOST 400.00 DOLLARS PER MONTH AND WHEN I SENT THEM ALL THE EMAILS WHERE THERE GUY TOLD ME TO KEEP IT AND DONT WORRY. MY CONTRACT SAYS 1123.00 PER MONTH BUT THEY SAY IT IS 1523.OO HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THESE LIES FROM THIS OUTFIT I NOTICED WHERE A FEW PEOPLE HAVE RUN INTO THIS WHERE THE ESCROW ACCTS WERE MESSED UP AND THEY ADDED IT TO HERE PAYMENT.
BAIT AND SWITCH - they either have no idea what they're doing or they intentionally skew the numbers to make it look better than it is to rope you in - which by the way is illegal. The initial LE intentionally had prepaids and pay off/loan amount way too low to make it look like it met the VA's NTB and 36 month recoup. In reality once actual figures are adjusted it wouldn't qualify- I'd either have to bringing in THOUSANDS out of my pocket to keep the loan amount low or take a higher rate with less cost. It seems they count on consumers knowing nothing about the process to lure them in with the "low rate" and not look at the details.
Terrible customer services, not helpful and basically will waster an hour of your day to achieve nothing but waiting on hold for hours and hours. Absolutely the worst mortgagee company I have ever come across, should not be in business.
Great company! I’ve refinanced with them in the past and they recently helped me purchase a new home. I can’t imagine working with another company or Loan Officer. They have my business for life.
