Upswing Debt Relief is an online portal that is powered by Freedom Debt Relief.

Upswing as a company does not settle debt itself, but rather is an online service that helps consumers find the best solution to their debt situation.
ConsumersAdvocate.org Notice: Freedom Debt Relief was recently the target of a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau lawsuit regarding FDR’s disclosure of certain terms.

Qualification - 4.8 / 5

Upswing's online portal allows customers to begin the process of settling debt from $10,000 - $100,000+.

It is important to mention that debt settlement is a process by which customers stop paying their creditors.

The debt settlement company then uses its relationships with these creditors to convince them to take a smaller amount than owed.

As a result of the missed payments, a customer's credit score almost always goes down, but will rebound once the debt is canceled and off the books.

Upswing can help you with virtually any kind of unsecured debt. This includes credit cards, medical bills, department store credit cards, personal loans, certain accounts in collection, etc.

Pricing: How much does Upswing cost?

Pricing & Fees - 5 / 5

Since Upswing is an online portal, pricing and fees will wholly depend on whichever company Upswing ultimately pairs the customer with.

In this case since Upswing works exclusively with Freedom Debt Relief, customers should verify this information with FDR before proceeding.

The CFPB Enforcement Action

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) recently filed a lawsuit claiming that FDR failed to disclose that certain creditors will not negotiate with debt settlement companies.

FDR strongly disagrees with this claim. FDR has developed strategies to negotiate settlements with debts from all creditors.

In fact, since 2010, FDR settled $1.2 billion in debt (nearly 200,000 accounts) for clients with accounts from the credit card issuers listed in the complaint.

ConsumersAdvocate.org cannot judge the merits of the CFPB’s enforcement action against FDR at this time. But the claims—even if true—are limited to whether FDR adequately disclosed its ability to negotiate with certain creditors.

ConsumersAdvocate.org is not aware of any claims that FDR has unlawfully charged consumers or otherwise failed to provide services to its customers.

You can find more information about the lawsuit at the CFPB’s site here. FDR responded to the CFPB complaint, and you can read the statement here.
