What Mass Mutual promised us, we would come to find out was a series of lies that would leave us owing them hundreds of thousands of dollars, instead of them owing us that. I cannot stress how important it is that when you are looking for life insurance, you RUN away from Mass Mutual as fast as you can. My husband and I set up life insurance plans over two decades ago. During our initial conversations, they showed us what our projected income would be at retirement. In addition, hey showed us what our guaranteed cash surrender value would be and that we would not have to pay premium, because our dividends would cover it (which we have on recording). Now, I’m 70 and ready to retire... Read More

Interest rates at record lows in 2020 yet MM has increased their interest rate on policy loans from 4% to 5% If you live long enough borrowing from the policy is inevitable. Loan rates are a factor when purchasing whole life and with interest rates now at record lows and MM raising policy rates when they should be lowered is unethical, immoral, and perhaps illegal.

Not at all impressed with their "screening" process - it appeared to be very prejudicial and I feel they base their "acceptance" decisions on issues unrelated to health or actually providing life insurance. to those who apply. They are up your ass to get your tests done but then completely blow you off once they feel you aren't up to their standards, whatever they are. Very unimpressed with how they handled my application

6 out of 8 comments were negative before I wrote my following negative review, so ignore the 9.5 out of 10 reputation rating if you want an objective opinion. I filed a claim 21 months ago on a disability policy and finally got a definitive denial today. MassMutual went out of their way to delay a resolution at every turn, for months at a time. The worst part is that in order to keep my claim alive their policy required that I keep paying $200 every month to keep the policy active. My attorney explained that provision is very unusual and all other disability policies typically work like an automobile policy, i.e. your claim is locked in based on whether you had coverage on the date... This company is a joke - DO NOT BUY LIFE INS FROM THEM - you will pay for your loved ones funeral costs out of pocket, not them. They may reimburse you once their hand is forced, but unless you plan on having a funeral 3 weeks or so after your loved one dies, do not use this company because they are not releasing the iNS funds for burial until weeks after the fact - i only gave them one star because i had to. This is a joke. Why have life INS if you dont have access to the funds in time to bury your loved one -

Terrible customer service when you need something after 30 years of payments. Phone bank people have no knowledge of what is happening with your forms and will not look into. Basically they have just told me each time I called that "they just received yesterday and I will have to wait my turn" . Since they told me this for 10 days that really doesn't make sense! MassMutual does not respond to emails at all and even though I checked on form that I would like text updates, I have not received one. My needs are very time sensitive and I have expressed this, but no one seems able to do anything or at the very least provide information. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Shame on you! My mother took out 2 (two) life insurance policy's on my father. They had been divorced 10 years when she took them out! My mother made herself the first beneficiary, but she died in 2009. My father died in 2017. My brother was the 2nd beneficiary. He was disabled with rectal, colon and metastatic cancer to the lung. He died of sepsis and gas gangrene and end stage emphysema in August of 2018. My brother was 60 years old and could not attend to the details and a signature on my mother's policy on my Dad. Now, you as a business entity are forcing my mother's efforts to protect her own children via these policies to go into an open estate. Individuals who never knew my... Read More

I have been a policyholder of Life Insurance policies for myself, my wife, two children and nine grandchildren for over 43 years along with a Long Term Care contract. Through the years I have found MassMutual to be a Policy Holder centered company by performing better than illustrated both during duration of contracts and most importantly, at claim. I would recommend for those of us who are challenged by computer generated contacts, trying to talk with a real live agent. I have, and found it both a pleasant, and profitable experience.
