Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I really wish I would've read the reviews on Pet Plan insurance BEFORE I decided to sign up with them. I just spent $1262 (total) on both of my dogs who were bit by a copperhead last month. I have a $500 deductible on each dog which leaves a balance of $262. They are to reimburse me at 80% which 80% of $262 = $209. They are sending me a check for $21.67. Really? Who taught them the math they are using to reimburse me at 80%. I will be researching another pet insurance and checking reviews before I sign up. What a scam!

This company is the worst!! Save your money!!! When we got our pet at 8 weeks old she had already had her tail clipped. When we took her for her shots we noticed a small rash on the tail.... Fast forward to now. She had an allergic reaction to something she ate, and it caused a rash. Well because we had her tail looked at at 8 weeks old the rash she got on her tummy and paws 18 months later was deemed pre-existing!!! First they drugged the claim out for almost 2 months collecting another premium payment knowing full well they were going to deny the claim!!! Crooks and robbers! I will let my employer know this as well since they referred me to them!!!!

I am a pet owner of 3 cats that all have coverage with pet plan. I just had $1,000 dollars of claims rejected because my cat was healthy and we did not take him in for an annual health check. He was healthy but afraid to travel. He is a rescue who was abused. I have been paying $28 per month only to find out that these denied claims are now excluded from future claims. Poor insurance coverage. They have gone down hill since switching carriers.

Mine and my husband's dog, MInnie, has been the light of our life for the last eight years. Our little ten year old Terrier-Poodle is a rough and tumble gal, who loves the outdoors and has no fear, often to the chagrin of Mommy (me). For the past eight years anytime Minnie has needed the Vet's services for her charge ahead personality, or new, severe chronic conditions, Petlan has always been there! The new underwriters in 2016 are frustrating, and it did increase cost of coverage, but the staff keeps me coming back for Minnie's insurance needs. Taylor Bell-Branchcomb was nothing less than amazing with our latest claim for our little Minnie Bear. The exceptional customer service Taylor... Read More

We have had Pet Plan for over 16 years. Our girl Lucie was 16.5 when she passed away and over all those years Pet Plan was there for us. The list of things that happened are long. She ate a string of fake berries of our Christmas tree and part got stuck in her throat, had to get it removed. Mast cell tumor, ACL repair, spleen removal due to tumor, bladder cancer, the list goes on. Each and every one was covered by Pet Plan. I sent in the forms, bills and doctors notes and a check arrived in the mail. We had another dog, Max and he was covered by Pet Plan too, same results. I would never be without Pet Insurance and Pet Plan is one of the best...

At an early age, my dog suffered symptoms that I would not have expected. I was scared for my baby, my world was turned upside down, and I had to come up with nearly $5,000 just for the diagnosis. Thankfully, I have PetPlan Insurance. I was able to charge the necessary treatment to my credit card, and I followed up with Jennifer Grasso. I had an upcoming vacation, and wanted to have my refund back in time for me to blow it on the cruise. She was extremely helpful in helping me make sure I had all of the right documents, and followed up with the claims department for me. This is outside of the scope of her duties, and she really went above and beyond. She took ownership of my... Read More

Petplan helped pay for a sudden urgent neck surgery to our puppy, Jeffrey. This took stress off the incident. At first it was difficult getting the claim paid for when another employee was taking care of the claim, but when Taylor jumped in to speed the claim along by following up with us, and processig Jeffreys medical records, our claim was quickly and smoothly taken care of ! Thanks so much Taylor for giving us 5 star care, communication and for taking care of our claim with Petplan!

Petplan insurance has never refused a claim or made me fight to get reimbursed for necessary pet care. Without Petplan I honestly don’t know if I could afford to care for my English Mastiff Bartleby. He has allergies and a joint issue. I would recommend getting Petplan as soon as you get a new furry family member.

I'm shocked this website assigns Petplan a rating of 8.9. They used to be a good company, however, take a look at the Consumer Advocate reviews here on this site since their new underwriter took over around 2017. The customers who posted reviews on this site from 2018 to year-to-date average about 2.5 stars out of 5. My premiums went up from $618 in 2018 to $1050 in 2019 to $1450 for 2020. That's for one perfectly health dog whose only claim in that period was for a bad tooth, vet bill of $820, Petplan paid $250. I completely agree with the Editors overview that many customers "feel squeezed by dramatic increases in premiums." I called Petplan, they said premiums go up as dogs get... Read More
