Avast is a Czech company founded in 1988 to develop security software for homes, businesses, and schools, in the Czech Republic and internationally. Their cybersecurity protection works by incorporating each Avast user into a vast network of hundreds of millions of sensors. They've won a number of OPSWAT and Dennis Technology Lab awards, are a BBB-accredited business with an A+ rating, and a four-star TrustPilot score.

Avast has long been a popular choice for users looking for a capable free anti-virus tool. The software has since evolved into one of the most powerful anti-virus software that offers a wide variety of features designed to stop present and future threats. Aside from offering basic security functions, paid versions of the software provides a more complete package that handles online threats which has become the area of greatest concern. This year’s offer alone presents a significant improvement over last previous versions.

Advance Features

The first things that Avast anti-virus software does upon installation is to create a restore point. It then scans the systems to determine, eliminate and quarantine threats. Sandbox is an interesting feature where users are able to install and execute “suspicious” files in a safe environment. This way, users are able to determine of the file is a potential threat before they use it full time in day to day operations. Some anti-virus is too stringent that anything suspected of being a virus is often quarantined or deleted if it is unable to determine its integrity.

Even the best anti-virus software may not be able to handle all the new threats that are constantly being developed. Avast DynaGen feature is an AI based anti-virus engine that detects virus-like behavior. Another point of interest would be its military grade file shredding ability. This prevents the danger of personal and financial files being restored for unauthorized use.

Avast also has PC tuning abilities that minimize its impact on how your system operates. This is especially useful when applications or games are running. Aside from slowing down the system, constant pop-ups during the game could also be annoying for users.

  • Sandbox - run shady files in a virus-proof environment
  • DynaGen – Artificial intelligence based anti-virus engine
  • Military grade file deletion
  • PC tuner
  • Data backup

Summary

Avast has long been a trusted name in anti-virus software. Millions of users worldwide have downloaded its free version and it has performed excellently well in protecting computers even in its most basic form. The free version even works better than Windows Defender, preventing malware and blocking known viruses. And if this is an indication of what Avast brings into the table, its paid versions are definitely something that buyers should consider.

ConsumersAdvocate is misleading about this software. Avast DOES have a Free Version, which I am running. It does have nag popups, but it works well. I don't mind the nag popups because I may want to upgrade eventually when I get my new desktop set up. I'm not sure what to think about the "complaints" that Avast removes the spyware they installed...Maybe that is a GOOD thing?? But you should have a choice about whether to keep a program, I suppose. It is the person being spied ON who should be able to prevent that software from accessing their computer. ConsumersAdvocate needs to update this review to tell the truth about Avast's Free Version (maybe they wouldn't get paid?)

Avast removed KidInspector, the software I purchased to control my son, without my permission! What's going on? Why does this anti-virus remove my paid programs? I paid both for Avast and KidInspector and I need to use both programs without any issues! I see that many people have the same problem, but the company doesn't even try to help its customers.

I've been using CleverControl for a long period of time. The soft always helped me track my staff, I used it legally on their computers, besides they were all notified that I monitor them. But then I decided to install Avast antivirus on their computers. What a mistake! Yesterday I wanted to access to the staff's files and found out that avast had blocked the monitoring software a month ago without my permission! Is that how antivirus supposed to work? Block our company's paid program on several computers? Awful!

Purchased and used Spyrix program on mu computer and the software worked fine until I installed avast antivirus. Avast silently blocked Spyrix without asking me for a permission!! I just can't understand why this antivirus blocks a paid program? I deliberately installed spyrix on my pc and paid money for it 'cause I need it and avast just decided to block it.
