Accessibility Statement

At ConsumersAdvocate.org, we are committed to diversity and inclusion. Offering the best content in an accessible format is inherent to our mission. We strive to make decisions easier for all consumers, regardless of ability.

As part of our commitment to accessibility, we have taken steps to conform to the recommendations contained in the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. We strive to align with WCAG 2.1’s AA level of conformance in our design and development processes. In line with this goal, we are committed to creating content that takes into account the four top-level principles that provide the foundation for web accessibility, which state that content must be: perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.

We strive to make our content accessible to consumers who utilize assistive technologies, including screen reading software, screen magnification, and keyboard emulator tools. Our content is structured and validated using HTML5, styled with cascading style sheets, and user interaction is strengthened by javascript. Our site is continuously audited using assistive technology to ensure conformance with our web accessibility goals.

Scope & Plan

We understand the importance of implementing WCAG 2.1 recommendations on all pages on our site. We believe all consumers should be able to access our site and we strive to provide a visually rich user experience in alignment with that goal.

Methodology

As part of our commitment to our users, we conducted an accessibility audit to evaluate accessibility on a representative sample of our main pages. We then ran an automated and manual study on that sample to test compliance against WCAG 2.1’s A and AA success criteria.

Usability testing

In addition to our automated and manual accessibility testing, we administered a qualitative usability test with a real user with substantial disabilities (blind, low vision, and limited mobility).
