Overall Rating: 4.7 / 5 (Excellent)

Progressive has one of the most comprehensive boat insurance policies in the market, with many options and coverages to choose from, which consumers can customize to fit their exact needs. A large number of vessels are eligible for coverage, and the company has many discount programs available, which can help reduce the cost of insurance premiums. The quote tool is easy to use and detailed, resulting in a better quote. Unfortunately, the company has poor customer reviews, though none that we could see dealt directly with Progressive's boat insurance.

Progressive Coverage & Benefits

Coverage & Benefits - 5 / 5

Progressive offers boat insurance policies for all types of boats. By filling out a quote form with information on your boat, you are able to receive quotes for three insurance coverages: Basic, Choice, and Plus. The Basic coverage is a liability-only policy, while Choice and Plus include medical payments, comprehensive and collision, among other coverages. Progressive does place limitations on the size and value of the boats it insures: boats over $350,000 and 50 feet long are not covered. Several discounts are available, like safe driving discounts, multi-policy and multi-boat discounts, and a full pay discount.

Progressive Financial Strength & Reputation

Financial Strength & Reputation - 5 / 5

Progressive was established in 1937. It has ratings from the major credit rating agencies, all of which indicate its financial outlook is currently stable. As for its reputation among its customers, it has an A- rating with the BBB which has been downgraded because the company has failed to respond to some customer complaints. Most of the customer reviews posted on this site are negative, with complaints of unsatisfactory customer service. The story is much the same on Trustpilot, where customers have rated the company 4.7 out of 10. However, we could find no reviews that directly addressed the company's boat insurance policy.

My premium for a Sea Ray runabout was $217 6 years ago. Today I got a bill for $426. We’ve had no claims and the boat is Six years older. Talk about Bait and Switch. Double the price for a boat that’s twice as old. Does someone know a better company? I’m looking.

Quoting for a Pontoon boat, talked to an agent about Questions. Very nice, did have a long hold- agent needed clarification about how mounted Trolling motors and Fishing Electronics are covered. Items, Not mentioned in print and Fine Print mentioning evidence of cabin break-in is concerning about any Comp claim on a Pontoon Boat. Complete loss coverage is good, not Great because value of Ordered boat, agent kept saying something like "value of similar boat in market" ?

Worst insurance I've dealt with so far. Roadside assistance is non existing. 2 times I've need help with my boat trailer. I was left stranded for an 6 hrs. Before i had to call friends to help bail ourselves out. And now being nickled and dimed on a claim on my trailer. In the process of changing insurance. Told a claims a that and of course he didnt care. Well i guess I'll go find an insurance who appreciate thier customer more

My name is joe Bentz I broke down in the middle of the Chesapeake bay on a Saturday afternoon. I called progressive and told them I broke down, they walked me thru the process showing me how to obtain my correct gps location. They contacted the tow company. Who arrived and towed me back to the boat ramp. He also offers to help put the boat back on the trailer,we my brother and I said thanks but we could handle that. It’s quite the relief of knowing that there’s help when you need it. Starting from the phone call to progressive.

I was recommended Progressive Boat through USAA and had to have a claim on my boat. The rep that came out tried his best to not cover as much of the damages as he could get away with. He suggest I take my boat to Texas Boat World in Killeen Tx because Progressive uses them a lot . They had my boat for over 3 months from Jun to Sep. I heard from my rep maybe twice the whole time I was there. I went by to check on my boat since I wasn't hearing from my rep and had to point out some issue to the manager there. I got my boat back and to my surprise my boat seats were torn, I spoke with my rep and he said he spoke with the shop and he had to agree that my seat tore because of the age of the... Read More

Was dealing with an agent through a claim and I was already content with Progressive not covering the claim. I just wasn't content with the reasoning as I believed other factors were involved with my boat trailer breaking. After 5 to 10 minutes of the agent going around in circles with me, she got frustrated, said good bye, and hung up on me. Worst customer experience ever.

Discovered a crack in my hull, the adjuster came out and agreed I hit an object. Next day got a call, hold on it could have been a factory defect caused by a loose stringer. I was told if the stringer was attached they would pay for the $ 3000.00 repair bill. After cutting an access to the hull and the crack was exposed it turned out the stringer was totally intact. Got a call the next day that even though the stringer was not loose it did not look like an impact and the claim was denied. The crack must have just appeared out of nowhere. Flo is a crook this company is not worth dealing with. My only satisfaction is that beside my boat insurance, I have several company vehicles insured with... Read More
