Nolo Business Registration Services Review
ENTITY TYPES
Nolo only offers business registration services for one type of entity, Limited Liability Companies or LLCs.
SERVICES
For LLC registration, Nolo offers three packages, with the higher priced packages offering additional services.
- The Basic package includes: LLC name validation, articles of organization filing, automated error checking, customer service phone support and a guide to formalizing your LLC.
- The Standard package includes everything in the Basic package, plus: IRS application for EIN and business forms.
- The most comprehensive package, the Express, includes every service listed above and: Personalized LLC records kit and seal and priority rush filing.
Moreover, customers can add services depending on your business needs and where in the formation process you currently are. For example, Nolo can add a custom operating agreement to your LLC formation package if you still hadn’t done so.
If your LLC does not yet have a registered agent appointed to it, Nolo has partnered with Vcorp, a nationwide registered agent company, to provide its services for an additional cost. Having a registered agent is legally required if you want to form an LLC, and their services include the cataloging of all official documents, protecting the business from penalties, making sure all court documents are received, and general consulting.
Nolo also offers services from selected partners to help your LLC after its launch. It includes add-ons such as obtaining business licenses and permits (provided by Business Licenses) , tax registration and preparation (provided by 1-800Accountant), and web hosting services (provided by Web.com).
COST
LLC packages come in three price tiers and include service costs and state fees (which vary by state). As an example, we chose to register the company in the state of Delaware, and these were the costs:
- Express package: $299 plus $140 for state fees
- Standard package: $149 plus $90 for state fees
- Basic package: $49 plus $90 for state fees
For reference, the most expensive state filing fee we found was Texas ($308.10) and the most affordable one was Kentucky ($40).
Each additional service requested from Nolo carries its own cost. These may include a $50 one-time fee for adding an operating agreement, $150 per year, billed annually, for a Vcorp registered agent, $100 for Business Licenses, $170 per year for 1-800Accountant, and $135 for Web.com services.
An Express LLC package for a business registered in Delaware, with operating agreement and registered agent services add-ons, costs $639.
TIME
The time it takes to register your LLC depends entirely on the package selected. Nolo’s fastest service is the Express package, which offers priority rush filing that takes seven to ten business days.
Nolo’s other two packages (the Standard and the Basic) follow regular filing procedures and can take between two to three weeks.
EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
Aside from helping you form your LLC, Nolo offers educational tools in a variety of legal and business areas. Its extensive library of articles and how-tos are an unparalleled resource to learn about the ins-and-outs of business structures, planning, and financing, among many other topics.
As a publisher, Nolo offers books and e-books related to forming an LLC, incorporating your business, managing employees, and drafting contracts.
The company is accredited by the BBB and carries an A+ rating.
