Verizon’s Beyond Unlimited Plan Review
Performance
No one beats Verizon when it comes to network coverage and performance and J.D. Power has the data to back that up. It recently surveyed Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile to see which networks performed the best in six regions across the country. It measured performance based on the number of problems it encountered per 100 mobile device interactions, including interactions on cell phones, tablets and other mobile broadband devices.
Verizon won in all six regions with an average of seven errors per 100 mobile interactions, while its competitors averaged between 10 and 13. Of course, your cell phone service will vary, even on Verizon, depending on where you live. Rural dwellers may not have access to 4G LTE speeds while some city dwellers may already be on 5G speeds. But for the most part, no matter where you live, you can expect quality service from Verizon.
Price
Verizon offers the widest variety of cell phone plans in the industry. There are four unlimited plans, ranging from $35 to $55 per month per line for four lines enrolled in auto pay. The difference between the plans comes down to how much high-speed data each offers. For customers who don't want to sign up for a contract, there's also a prepaid unlimited option.
Families will appreciate the shared data plans, ranging from $35 per month for 2 GB of shared data to $70 per month for 8 GB of shared data. There's also a special Just Kids plan that enables parents to manage their children's screen time and track their location. This is $35 per month per line and requires you to have at least one line on an unlimited plan.
Verizon is one of the only carriers with plans specifically tailored to single individuals, with single-device plans ranging from $10 per month to $30 per month, though these only offer 1 GB of data at most. It also offers connected device plans which are specifically for tablets, mobile hotspots and wearable devices, like smart watches.
Trustworthiness
Verizon hasn't been hacked within the last few years, but it did have a data breach back in 2017 where a misconfigured security setting accidentally exposed 6 million customer phone numbers, names and some PIN codes, but no information was lost or stolen.
Despite having the best network, Verizon lost out on the top spot in J.D. Power's 2019 U.S. Wireless Customer Care study to T-Mobile. But it came in a close second and still earned an above-average rating, which suggests that most customers are happy with the service they receive from Verizon. Wireless carriers aren't known for their glowing reviews, so earning a positive rating like this should not be overlooked.
