Founded in 1989, Frontier Internet is a telecommunications company that provides residential and business customers with internet, TV, mobile, and voice services. The company is located in Norwalk, Connecticut and owned by Frontier Communications Corporation.

Frontier offers some of the lowest fees around for high-speed internet service. Their basic plan starts at $29.99 per month, though, as is the case with other ISPs, additional monthly and one-time fees may apply. But even taking those into account, Frontier is still an economical choice.

Frontier uses a fiber optic network to provide internet service in seven states. Fiber optic networks are generally considered more reliable than traditional copper wire networks. They're not subject to power outages, since they don't transmit electricity, for example. Fiber optic networks tend to be speedier and can cover greater distances without a degradation in service.

That being said, the 50 Mbps download and upload speeds Frontier offers with its basic plan may not suit all customers, though the company suggests that this basic plan will allow simultaneous streaming from three devices. Customers who expect to stream from more devices—for example large families or a bunch of roommates sharing a houseor stream and heavy gamers may want to consider upgrading to one of Frontier's premium plans. The company recommends its highest-speed plan—300 Mbps download and upload—for gamers. That plan will cost you up to $99.99 per month, depending on where you live. All plans come with unlimited data, a feature we like very much.

Frontier requires customers to sign a 24-month contract to take advantage of its promotional pricing. That can cut both ways. If you wind up loving the service, you've locked in a good rate for 2 years. On the other hand, if you are disappointed with the service, you're also locked in or you'll find yourself oaying an early termination fee. We prefer providers who allow customers to pay monthly with no long-term commitment.

Frontier receives a low rating (0/5 stars) on Trust Pilot and an F rating from the BBB. These ratings should be viewed in context, however. Internet service providers are some of the most-complained about businesses on consumer review sites. Many of the reviews we read focused on billing issues and not necessarily the quality of Frontier's service. This just reaffirms what we already know about telecommunications services: understanding pricing and contract terms is confusing across the board. So be sure you question every detail before signing up for any service.

Frontier botched the installation. The technician left even though he knew not all functions were working properly. It was an absolute nightmare that took hours to fix via Frontier's customer support. They claim professional installation - they simply did not provide what they advertised.
