Smart Health Dental Dental Insurance Review
ConsumersAdvocate.org
Coverage
Smart Health Dental offers several dental insurance plans to choose from. They all include preventive coverage for dental cleanings and exams as well as routine activities like sealants and x-rays. Depending on what you're looking for, you can also get coverage for major services, like root canals, fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, and dentures. These services aren't covered in full, but they can save you some of the costs on these expensive procedures. The amount of coverage you have varies depending on which plan you choose and how long you've had the plan. Those who have had a Smart Health Dental insurance plan for at least two full years qualify for the highest degree of coverage. None of Smart Health Dental's plans currently cover orthodontia.
For those who don't want to pay for traditional dental insurance, Smart Health Dental also offers a discount dental plan. This is not a traditional dental insurance policy. You pay a monthly fee and then you get a card that you can give to your dentist. This qualifies you for discounts on your dental care but you will be responsible for paying the full discounted price.
Benefit Limits
Smart Health Dental's Preventive PPO plan covers up to $750 in dental care every year while its Comprehensive Elevate plan covers up to $750 for the first year you have the plan, $1,000 during the second year and $1,250 for the third year and beyond. There is no annual limit for the dental discount plan because this is not considered regular insurance.
These limits are pretty average for dental insurance policies and you probably won't bump up against this limit unless you need a lot of costly dental work done at once.
Availability
None of Smart Health Dental's plans impose waiting periods so you can begin using your insurance as soon as your policy becomes effective. Its Comprehensive Elevate plans don't impose waiting periods on major services either, but they don't cover as much in the first or second years of policy ownership as they do for those who have had their policies for more than two years.
Smart Health Dental partners with a network of over 200,000 dentists nationwide, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find one near you. You can technically work with any dentist you choose, but you'll get the best rates if you use a dentist in Smart Health Dental's network.
Pricing
Smart Health Dental doesn't disclose premium costs on its website because rates vary depending on location and availability. There is no online quote tool, so you should reach out to the company via phone if you're interested in learning more about its plans.
The Preventive PPO plan doesn't have a deductible while the Comprehensive Elevate plan charges a $50 annual deductible per person for basic and major procedures with a $150 maximum deductible per family. There are no copays with any of Smart Health Dental's plans.
