LegalShield, previously known as Pre-Paid Legal Services, is an Ada, Oklahoma-based company that provides access to legal services offered by its network of 39 law firms in all 50 U.S. states and 4 Canadian provinces. The company offers prepaid legal plans to its members, having pioneered the concept over 45 years ago. It currently provides legal protection to over 4.5 million individuals and families and 1.7 million businesses.

LegalShield is an excellent proactive solution to a wide array of legal problems, including divorce. For such a large list of services, as well as discounts on popular brands, the monthly fee of $24.95/mo. is quite affordable. Access to the company’s network of law firms with attorneys with an average of 22 years of experience means that members can also expect quality legal protection. Altogether, this makes LegalShield one of the best legal solutions for individuals and families who have the money to make the monthly payments.

Breadth of Services

The way LegalShield works is essentially different to how most other businesses that offer legal services function. Instead of paying when you need access to legal assistance, you pay for it beforehand as a monthly fee. This means that when a legal emergency comes up, you already have a law firm backing you up.

In the case of family law issues, including divorce and child custody, both of these are covered under the company’s Personal/Family Plan. The plan covers four key areas of legal protection:

  • Advice and consultation. Members can speak with their attorney about an unlimited number of personal legal issues. Attorneys return calls within 4 business hours or less and are available 24/7 for emergency situations.
  • Court representation. Provider attorneys can defend members in court and represent them in a variety of other legal proceedings. They can also make phone calls and write letters on behalf of members to help solve legal problems.
  • Document and contract reviewing. Members can have a lawyer review and provide feedback on an unlimited number of personal legal documents. Membership covers any personal legal documents up to 15 pages in length with no extra or hidden fees.
  • Document and contract drafts. Members get an attorney-drafted Standard Will, Living Will, and Power of Attorney, plus yearly updates. Attorneys can draft other kinds of documents too, such as residential loan paperwork.

Member can access LegalShield’s services through the company’s mobile app available on Apple and Google devices.
