When it comes to ED treatment, ForHims.com offers evaluation, prescription, and delivery services. The company prescribes three of the four FDA-approved ED medications: sildenafil, tadalafil, and avanafil. These medications are available with an appropriate prescription in their generic form and/or as branded pills. Cialis and Viagra are available in both forms. Avanafil, the newest medication approved by the FDA, is not yet available as a generic drug. ForHims sells it under its brand name, Stendra. Some of these medicines may be more or less suitable for you, based on your ED symptoms, your health profile, and your sexual experience goals. Ease of Process

ForHims' virtual experience makes it easy for men to seek treatment for ED—a problem they may be reluctant to talk about in-person with their regular physicians. Patients begin the process by completing a 19-question questionnaire. It's a low-key, friendly questionnaire, no doubt designed to put patients at ease. Patients are asked to provide information on the frequency and character of their ED symptoms, their health history, medications they may be taking, and other details that might have an impact on their suitability for ED meds. Prescribers may also use the information to decide which, if any, medication might best address patients' symptoms. Patients are also required to upload a photo of themselves and their government-issued ID for identification purposes. The questionnaire can be completed in about 15 minutes, which is in line with others we've taken.

We noticed a few differences between ForHims' questionnaire and others we've reviewed. Patients are asked to list the medications they're taking and the dosages for each. While each of the questionnaires we've taken ask medication questions, they also provide prompts along the way. For example, if you note that you have high cholesterol in your responses, some questionnaires provide a list of popular cholesterol medications to choose from. Specific dosages are not required to complete the questionnaire. These questions might stop some patients in their tracks because they don't have that information at their fingertips. So if you're interested in being evaluated by ForHims' medical providers, it's a good idea to be prepared with your medication information before you begin taking the questionnaire. We also noted that ForHims suggested a specific medication—the generic version of Viagra—upon completion of the medical section of the questionnaire while allowing that patients could express their preference for a different one. Finally, patients are immediately presented with a price list and asked to provide shipping information. We don't want to read between the lines, but that experience did raise a bit of doubt about the objectivity of the evaluation process.

Pricing

ForHims publishes a somewhat vague price list for each of the ED drugs available through its site. You can lower your per-pill price by buying medication in larger quantities and ForHims uses the "as low as" style of describing its prices in the main section of the site. Other sites exhibit greater pricing transparency. Once you have completed a portion of the online questionnaire you can review purchase options and pricing for the medication ForHims initially recommends for you, as described above.

Provider Credentials and Medical Expertise

ForHims introduces you to its leadership team on its Medical Experts page. You can read brief bios of the six men and women who head up the company, all of whom are MDs. The company doesn't make it immediately clear whether the results of your virtual consultation will be reviewed by a medical doctor or a nurse practitioner licensed to prescribe medication. There is no link to a list of ForHims providers or their credentials that's accessible from the site's homepage or product pages. But we did a little digging and found out that the company does employ nurse practitioners. ForHims, Inc. does publish a list of its providers on a customer support page, but there is no link to that page on ForHims.com.
