italki is a language learning platform that connects language learners with native language teachers.

The language learning service offers 1-on-1 lessons via professional teachers or community tutors.

italki currently has a community of 3,000,000 language learners and more than 5,000 language teachers worldwide.

What’s Included?

Language learning lessons are done via 1-on-1 lessons over skype or any video chat software.

Language learning resources also include articles and other community support channels.

Italk has over 100 languages to offer from Chinese to French and almost everything in between.

How Does It Work?

italki uses a student-centric learning approach that gives students the freedom to determine which learning process works best for them.

Language learners have the option of selecting from professional teachers or community teachers.

Professional tutors are language teachers who are most ideal for students new to a language.

These are professionals that possess a degree or certificate in education.

Professional tutors lay the basic foundations of learning a new language.

Community tutors, on the other hand, help advanced students get a deeper understanding about the intricacies and day to day application of their new language.

It helps students immerse and get to native level proficiency.

Rather than following a structured learning path, teachers create customized learning strategies depending on a student’s needs and preference.

All lessons are designed according to what area of learning a student wants to focus on.

italki lets you pay by the lesson. There are no tuition fees or long-term commitments.

Study at your own pace and budget your learning accordingly.

Italki gives you the option of selecting a tutor based on your availability.

This gives you better flexibility in terms of when and where you want to learn.

Scheduling a Lesson

1. Finding a Teacher – students can select teachers based on three basic criteria. Language, availability and hourly rate.

2. Select a Date and Time – create your own learning schedule. Pay by the lesson lets you set the number of lessons based on your availability and budget.

3. Connect – after selecting a tutor and setting a schedule, students can now connect with their tutors via skype or any video cha software.

italki Community

Aside from its 1-on-1 lessons, italki also offers other learning resources.

Language learning articles is a convenient method to reinforce learning in your free time.  Get insights by reading articles written by teachers and tutors.

Notebook is another great way of contributing to learning by getting writing corrections for the language you are learning.

Answers lets you ask questions about the language you are learning or lets you be a contributor by answering questions about your native language.

Language Exchange and Discussions give you a more interactive way of communicating with italki’s learning community.

Bottom Line

With hundreds of languages and 5,000 teachers, italki opens the doors wide open for students and professionals searching for a convenient way to learn a new language.

All I know about italki is what I've read above. I learned French up to 2nd year high school, that is 6 decades ago. I've had little chance of speaking it. We learned German, French and English. French was my favorite. Would italki please email me additional information. I want to gain confidence in French and would like to get reading material and or book titles. They need not be new. looking forward to reading you raydouw@gmail.com
