How is Bright Health rated?

Breakdown

Overall Rating: 0 / 5 (N/A)

Unlike some insurers who specialize in Medicare Supplement insurance, Bright Health focuses exclusively on Medicare Advantage policies, offering types C and D coverage only. Medicare Advantage policies serve to add coverage for services that Original Medicare doesn't cover. They provide lower co-pays and deductibles and make it easier for seniors to centralize more care with one insurance company. With as many medical costs as seniors often encounter, that convenience and the peace of mind it brings can be very valuable. Managing medical costs for seniors (and their caregivers) can amount to a full-time job.

Unlike some Medicare Advantage Plans, Bright Health offers HMO-style plans that can make buying supplemental insurance more affordable, particularly for seniors who are already receiving medical care from one of Bright Health's provider partners. Because continuity of care is an important concern that contributes to positive health outcomes, seniors who aren't already using one of Bright Health's network providers might prefer their PPO-style plans. We appreciate that Bright Health offers customers that choice.

Bright Health Coverage

Level of Coverage - 0 / 5

With seven plans to choose from, Bright Health offers flexibility within the category of Medicare Advantage Plans. They do not offer Medigap coverage like some companies that specialize in Medicare insurance. We like that Bright Health offers the option of an HMO-style plans. Many seniors have existing relationships with particular doctors and provider networks. If your preferred network is among the local organizations that Bright Health partners with, you can keep your Medicare Advantage costs lower while still getting care from the providers you trust.

Plan Types

  • Plan C - One of the most popular plans, it adds on a skilled nursing facility daily copay, the Part B annual deductible, and emergency care outside of the U.S.
  • Plan C - Often referred to as Medicare Advantage, it offers the same coverage as Medicare Part A & B, but is offered by a private insurance carrier instead of the government. May include additional coverage benefits for the same cost as Part B premium.
  • Plan D - Though this includes most of the same benefits as plan C, it does not cover the Part B deductible.
  • Plan D - Also prescription drug coverage, seniors are encouraged to enroll if they have Parts A & B. Many Part C plans offer prescription drug coverage so you may not need a Part D plan.

Plan Types

Bright Health allows you to customize coverage by offering both HMO- and PPO-style Medicare Advantage programs. They have a total of seven programs. All include preventive dental care and hearing services. Some offer the option of adding comprehensive dental and vision care coverage.

It's important to understand that none of Bright Health's plans are Medigap plans, which actually extend the coverage Medicare provides to help you bridge the gap between what Medicare pays and what you actually owe for health care services. Private Medicare Advantage programs typically lower your co-pays and limit your maximum out-of-costs versus the original Medicare program offered by the Federal government. They may also increase the number of covered medical services.

When you want to explore policy options with Bright Health, you provide your zip code, which allows them to tell you who their partners are in your local area. You are then presented with seven plan options, which are explained in some detail and include premium prices. Bright Health also does a good job of providing general Medicare education on their site, which is very important to customers who are newly or soon-to-be-eligible for Medicare. Before the current COVID-19 pandemic, Bright Health hosted local educational events and listed them on their website, but these have been temporarily suspended for the health and safety of customers and employees alike.

I first signed up for a health insurance plan with Bright Healthcare in August of 2022 to begin in September 2022 and my monthly premium was $422.75/month and I was set up on an auto-draft ACH payment plan. When the time for Open Enrollment came around I received correspondence that Bright Healthcare would no longer be offering Individual and Family Health Insurance plans in 2023. I found and paid for a new health insurance company to provide health coverage that would begin 1/1/2023. On December 23, 2022 Bright Healthcare charged me a premium for January for $488.70. I was told there would be no more Individual health insurance plans available in 2023, thus I never signed up for, nor... Read More

I don't know how they have a good rating when their customer service is horrible. Since Jan. 3, i have been trying to get the website to acknowledge my coverage and still cannot get it resolved. I have 2 accounts in my family and neither has had the issues resolves.

I was considering changing to Bright Health until my girlfriend ran into a complex medical issue. Based on her experience of the last 6 months, my opinion is that Bright’s provider network at a specialist level is extremely limited and not exactly leading edge. Their phone support is rudimentary and often does not know what they are talking about--to the point where my girlfriend ended up educating them. The protocols their people follow are the worst ever and more complex than anything I've encountered with UHC, my healthcare provider--and I've gone through some serious issues related to cancer. As a relatively new player to the Colorado health market, I get they are suffering from... Read More

Bright Health Medicare Supplement Insurance review Never ever use this company. They took over a $1000 out of my account that I never authorized. They were supposed to take $30 a month. I only get a $1000 a month on SS, so they took my rent, and elec. money for July. My landlord told me he would have to evict me if I didn't come up with it. So thanks to Bright Healthcare I will be homeless come the first of July. If you actually value your health, Never Ever use this company. ~Larry Harbin
