USAA Coverage

Level of Coverage - 3.5 / 5

USAA offers Plan A, Plan B (only in PA), Plan C (only in MI), and Plans F and N. Since the availability of Medicare Supplement plans varies by state, USAA members need to contact a customer service representative or log into their account to compare costs. The plans are standardized and regulated by the federal government; thus, all policy types include the same benefits.

Plan Types

  • Plan A - It includes hospital copayment costs up to a year after Medicare benefits are exhausted, the first three pints of blood, Part B coinsurance including preventive care services after deductible, and hospice care.
  • Plan B - Offers the same amount of coverage as Plan A, with the addition of a hospital deductible in each benefit period.
  • Plan C - One of the most popular plans, it adds on a skilled nursing facility daily copay, the Part B annual deductible, and emergency care outside of the U.S.
  • Plan F - Less expensive than other plans, F covers all the same benefits as C, with the addition of 100% of Part B's excess charges.
  • Plan N - Covers hospital copayments, Part B co-insurance except $20 for office visits & $50 for emergency visits, first 3 pints of blood, hospital deductible, SNF, foreign care, all of Part B co-insurance for preventive care, and hospice care.

USAA Customer Experience

Reputation and Customer Experience - 5 / 5

Since USAA has only recently joined the Medicare Supplement Insurance market, the reviews we found were mostly for products related to auto insurance and financial services. Regardless, USAA customers can contact customer support through a toll-free number, by email, or by dialing #USAA using an AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon smartphone. Members also have access to a comprehensive FAQ section, articles, and videos. In addition, all USAA members have extra benefits not necessarily related to health insurance.

My husband and I have had USAA Plan F for years. Since we were frequently going out of the country, their coverage was just what we needed. Since getting it, my husband had a $100,000 hospital/rehab bill that they paid what Medicare didn't cover and the covered what Medicare didn't cover at MD Anderson for 5 1/2 weeks of radiation treatment and all followup visits since 2021.

I tried multiple times to apply for coverage but was given the run around about how USAA computers were having issues. The last person I spoke with named Seth said he would call me back with information but never did. He left me hanging. If the company did not want to cover me then they should have just said that and told me why. Very disappointed.

This week for reasons not related to USAA I have had to change the account from which USAA is to withdraw funds for the monthly premiums. Today was the worst customer service experience I have experienced in my 63 years of USAA membership. I am trying to inform USAA of the change of routing and account numbers of the account to continue to draft for my monthly premiums. I have spent about 5 hours mostly listening to terrible music interspersed with apologies from USAA for the delay, interrupted by... Read More
