Like all VA loans, mortgages offered through Veterans United are insured by the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Because of this, the company is able to offer loans with significantly more favorable conditions to service members and veterans than usually available to the civilian population, like flexible qualification guidelines, lower rates, lower monthly payments, no down payments, and no private mortgage insurance.

As the country's No. 1 Lender for VA purchase loans, Veterans United has closed over 100,000 home loans for military service members and their families.

Veterans United Qualification Requirements

Qualification Requirements - 4.5 / 5

VA loans are a $0 down payment mortgage option available to Veterans, Service Members and select military spouses, are issued by private lenders, and are guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

All prospective borrowers under the VA loan program must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Veterans Administration. Veterans United may be able to get this document for you.

In order to get a COE, generally speaking, you must:
  • Have 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime, or
  • Have 181 days of service during peacetime, or
  • Six years in the Reserves or National Guard, or
  • Be the spouse of a service member who has died in the line of duty or as a result of an injury sustained in the line of duty

  • Because VA loans are insured by the federal government, credit score typically isn’t as much of a limiting factor as it is with conventional loans, however, it still will play a part.

If your credit is less than stellar, it would be a good idea to avail yourself of Veterans United’s credit building service. As an active or former service member, the company connects you with credit and VA loan experts free of charge to help get you on track to securing a home.

If you have additional questions about whether you qualify, you can contact Veterans United's Home Loan Specialists, who are available 24/7.

We have now had two home-buying experiences with Veterans United. Both experiences were EXCELLENT. We had experience with another lender between the two Veterans United experiences, and boy did we regret that!! We will never work with anyone else ever again. Also, we were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by our loan specialist, Mike Wilson. His customer service is second to NONE. Unbelievable! Just an outstanding experience from start to finish. Amazing knowledge of the process, light-speed response times, and he makes you feel like you are his only customer! A 10 rating is just not high enough. Even our real estate agent remarked how AWESOME he is to work with. She said she is sending all... Read More

I have bought and sold several houses with my VA benefit and I can say truthfully that Veterans United has been not only the best service agent, but also the most forthright sharing information and advice. Our loan specialist, Josh Capron, who we only know through email and phone contact, has been more like a trusted friend. He tells the truth, follows through on his tasks and is 100% reliable.

There was a lack in communication from the beginning. We didn't know who to reach out to at first, Nikki or Matt. We had ridiculous requests about getting a letter stating we don't live in an HOA... from who? They wouldn't accept the vehicle purchase agreement from a dealer. Saying it wasn't enough documentation showing that we owned and then sold the vehicle. We even sent in a copy of the title that the dealership luckily had saved in their system, which why VU needed that is beyond me. It still ended up being an issue for another whole week. They approved us for 200k and then when it came down to it, they said we may not qualify for 140k. What's the pre approval for? The... Read More

Spencer was very attentive and reassuring of a smooth process. His team kept me informed and in close contact during my tight timeline mortgage process. My realtor was impressed as she hadn't worked with this company before. She said Spencer was knowledgeable and easy to work with. The "to do list" was easy to complete and minimized confusion. It was a great experience.
