Like all VA loans, mortgages offered through Veterans United are insured by the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Because of this, the company is able to offer loans with significantly more favorable conditions to service members and veterans than usually available to the civilian population, like flexible qualification guidelines, lower rates, lower monthly payments, no down payments, and no private mortgage insurance.

As the country's No. 1 Lender for VA purchase loans, Veterans United has closed over 100,000 home loans for military service members and their families.

Veterans United Qualification Requirements

Qualification Requirements - 4.5 / 5

VA loans are a $0 down payment mortgage option available to Veterans, Service Members and select military spouses, are issued by private lenders, and are guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

All prospective borrowers under the VA loan program must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Veterans Administration. Veterans United may be able to get this document for you.

In order to get a COE, generally speaking, you must:
  • Have 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime, or
  • Have 181 days of service during peacetime, or
  • Six years in the Reserves or National Guard, or
  • Be the spouse of a service member who has died in the line of duty or as a result of an injury sustained in the line of duty

  • Because VA loans are insured by the federal government, credit score typically isn’t as much of a limiting factor as it is with conventional loans, however, it still will play a part.

If your credit is less than stellar, it would be a good idea to avail yourself of Veterans United’s credit building service. As an active or former service member, the company connects you with credit and VA loan experts free of charge to help get you on track to securing a home.

If you have additional questions about whether you qualify, you can contact Veterans United's Home Loan Specialists, who are available 24/7.

Bo Clapp(Loan Officer) and his team were nothing short of amazing. Thank you for keeping me and my family posted throughout this entire process and answering all the questions I shot your way. You went above and beyond and I’m not just throwing that out there for survey purposes. PAT FULLER (Realtor) if you are hesitant like we were or first time Buyers like we were these two gentleman are who you want to go with. PAT FULLER went above and beyond on numerous occasions and his team over at SDPROPERTYBROTHERS are simply amazing. True professionals in all aspects and the biggest thing I liked was he kept it real. I had finally decided to try and purchase my first home and I contacted a VU rep. He took all my information and told me he was going to do a preaproval on me and it will take 3-5 days and I'll receive it. Well;4 weeks passed and I hadn't heard from the rep; therefore I called him and he told me that he had forgotten about me, said he had gotten busy and I feel through the cracks! I don't know if I want to do this anymore!

Alonzo, I am so sorry to hear that this was your experience. This is not a typical Veterans United Home Loans experience, and I want to stress that each client is important to us! I shared your feedback with your loan officer, and if you would like to speak with a manager here at Veterans United to share more information about what happened, please call 1-800-212-5200 or email ClientAdvocate@veteransunited.com.

I was told home buying was one of the most stressful things people go through, but I can't say the same. As a first time home buyer i'm actually really surprise in how easy everything was. Veterans United breaks everything down making it so easy to understand what needs to be done. They also have a lot of helpful videos that will guide you through the whole process. It only took me 38 days from when I made an offer to close on the house. This was by far one of my best experiences of my life. Thank You for everything.

Weather you are a first time buyer or a multi home owner, the Veterans United Home Loans is the best place to come. Theyre honest, willing to work with you at your current status and pace: but what was most importantl to me was they kept me feeling like I had no issues that they couldn't help me solve. I must admit that I was a bit nervous at times but they always was there upfront to reassure and calm my fears as I progressed towards my home purchase. Then, after 3 months of work, it happened and I am the proud owner of a brand new home and it is all because I chose Veteran United Home Loans. Thank you guys a million.
