Breakdown

Overall Rating: 0 / 5 (N/A)

Worthy Peer Capital offers 5% annual returns on $10 bonds it invests into small businesses, with a mission to "support Main Street, not Wall Street." Worthy differs from the other robo-advisors we’ve reviewed because, although it has a digital investment app, Worthy does not manage your portfolio. Also, the company solely offers its own bonds tied to private lending, while many robo-advisors invest in both publicly-traded bonds and stocks. For Worthy, this means the bonds are not correlated to the stock market and their performance (or how well the market is doing or not doing) doesn't impact their investor's returns. The company also isn’t a brokerage firm or an investment advisor, in fact, it makes no claims to be and it is clearly stated on their website. On the site, Worthy states that the information they provide is just for “educational purposes” and shouldn’t count as tax advice and that clients “must make your own investment decisions or do so in consultation with a financial advisor.” This differs from the set-it-and-forget-it attitude of most robo-advisors, but Worthy brings a few creative features to the table that might interest more socially conscious investors. By investing in what Worthy calls a “peer-powered portfolio,” the everyday user gets access to institutional quality opportunities that once were previously reserved for accredited investors (although both are welcome to use the site). Plus, investors can feel good about contributing to community businesses across the U.S. while earning their 5% return.

As recent as midway through 2023 Worthy stated in their SEC filings that they don't believe they can continue as a going concern. That was concerning enough for me to pull my money out!

Any concern that according to their latest SEC filing, they are investing in REITs, mortgages, and other fixed income as well as a shared load? Subsequent to December 31, 2018 and through May 15, 2019, we have entered into several additional agreements utilizing the proceeds from the sale of Worthy Bonds, including: in January 2019, we entered into a $170,000 loan receivable agreement with a small business. The terms are similar to the loan receivable agreements entered into during 2018 described earlier in this section; in February 2019, we invested $200,000 in two privately held real estate investment trusts (REITs), and we invested an additional $200,000 in fixed income marketable... Worthy is like a diamond in a haystack. Hard to find anyone paying 5% ... let alone no fees , no penalties for early withdraw & although it sounds silly ... their actually nice & polite, helpful ... return e-mail & generally make you feel like your doing the right thing. I feel like it's a win-win situation & very happy to be a member!
