LegalShield is an online legal services website that offers subscription-based access to lawyers for a variety of legal issues. With close to forty law firms across the country, LegalShield can help individuals and families with everything from estate planning to family law, and, in some cases, personal injury law. The Oklahoma-based company was founded in 1973 and is owned by Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.

Services Offered

Subscription services with LegalShield provide coverage for certain legal services included in the package. Customers pay a monthly fee and LegalShield covers your legal needs through its nationwide network of attorneys. However, not everything is covered under these plans, including personal injury law matters. Legal assistance and other services may involve additional costs.

However, with a LegalShield subscription you have access to see any of the company’s affiliated lawyers at a discounted rate: 25% off the layer’s standard hourly rate. The total amount is set by the law firm/attorney you have been referred to and will vary from case to case depending on several factors including the types of services being provided and your state of residence.

According to its website, LegalShield is affiliated with nearly 40 law firms employing more than 900 attorneys across the U.S. and Canada. The services are available nationwide, though may vary from state to state. Even though personal injury law is not one of the basic plan benefits included in its subscriptions, most of the law firms affiliated with LegalShield will be able to assist you in some way.

Pricing

LegalShield has a straightforward pricing model and clearly establishes what each subscription costs and what it includes. Nonetheless, since personal injury law is not a core coverage area included in the company’s subscription plans, any help you might need with this matter would have to be taken up with the attorney you’ve been referred to. As LegalShield’s website states, in cases of personal injury lawsuits, customers can work out other payment options, such as contingency fees or flat fee agreements, with the attorney.

Privacy Protection

The company does a good job of being clear and transparent about its privacy policies, stating that it does not disclose your personal information to other companies that can use the information to sell other products and services, unlike many other online law service websites that do sell and share information to third parties.

LegalShield only shares your information with the partnered attorneys in its network since you will receive services from them. But this information is shared under confidentiality agreements with each legal entity the company is affiliated with.

Online Resources

The company’s website contains a blog with a vast selection of articles related to most legal topics it covers, such as child custody, civil litigation, family law, last will and testament, taxes, and many others. However, since Personal Injury law is not one of LegalShield’s offerings, the company website does not have much information.
