Peppermint Pet Insurance provides accident and illness coverage for dogs and cats and offers a choice of pet insurance plans to suit pet owners' varying needs. Peppermint policies are underwritten by PetLine Insurance Company, a company founded in 2004 and located in Winnipeg, Canada.

Snapshot

Peppermint offers pet owners a choice of four plans. The company's lowest-cost plan covers accidents only but the rest cover accidents and illnesses. Each plan establishes a $100 deductible and an 80% reimbursement level. The company bases reimbursement on your actual vet bills, not on average vet fees or a benefits schedule so customers can predict how much they will be reimbursed for each claim at the time of service.

Peppermint policies feature some of the usual restrictions on the types of services and conditions they will not cover, including neutering, pregnancy, and elective procedures, but provides coverage for a wide range of veterinary expenses, including diagnostic work, surgery, hospitalization, rehabilitation, prescription medicines, alternative therapies, medical devices, and more. Like most pet insurance policies, Peppermint's policies impose some restrictions around pre-existing conditions. However, they do not entirely exclude some conditions that are excluded by other pet insurers, such as hip dysplasia and cruciate ligament issues.

Summary

Overall, Peppermint is a sound pet insurance choice with many advantages. While the company doesn't offer quite as many opportunities to customize your coverage as some insurers offer, their plans feature a generous reimbursement level and a low deductible to help keep your out-of-pocket expenses low. Peppermint doesn't exclude senior pets from coverage. That's a big plus in our book since aging pets are often the ones most in need of veterinary treatment. The company provides a thorough document explaining its policies' terms in plain language on its website. It's definitely worth a read if you're shopping for a comprehensive, predictable policy with few restrictions.

Dealing with Peppermint has been a nightmare. Our deductible has grown to $500.00 year with no claims for the past several years. Our dog was diagnosed with Addisons as a puppy and our deductible was raised immediately and continually increased even though we have not had any claims for several years until this year. Our rates have gone up and our deductible is now $500.00/year. Now that our dog is 12 years old and medications exceed $500.00 dollars a year, we've submitted receipts and every single claim has been HELD up. Even though we submit for the same medications you require claims forms which each submission. I was told you did not need a claim form for the same medications;... Read More

I was with Presidents Choice, Which is now called Peppernint Insurance, for 11 years, paying faithfully every month, to protect my pet. I bought the prime which was their top insurance, it was supposed to cover mostly everything. I paid, which started out as $43 monthly plus there is a $400 deductible, now it's $53 plus with a $500 deductible. If you read their coverage ,dental is included . NOT TRUE. I would advise anyone thinking about pet ,insurance, open up your own account for your pet and have Your money automatically going into that account instead of giving them money and you get nothing back when your pet has an issue. I paid them thousands of dollars through the years and got... Read More

They answered negatively to a claim after 2 months waiting time. Once you are the client, you have to wait 2 hours for customer service. I cancelled everything with them and I do not recommend. If you claim 300$ but you pay 900 in a year... what is the use?

cheap but no coverage. When you submit your invoice, they will say it is not covered. So why pay. Don't make this insurance company owner's rich.
