Heron Home and Outdoor is a relatively young company operating in select Florida counties. However, they employ the same termite control products that many larger, more established companies are using, which may be reassuring to customers in Florida who are considering both local and national firms to manage their termite infestations.

Services

Heron treats the most common termites in their regional operating area: Dampwood, Eastern Subterranean, and Formosa. You can request an "instant" quote via their website, but actually your quote will be provided after a home inspection. That's in line with other termite control companies and it makes sense, given that homes vary in size, and not all termite problems are the same. We did take issue with the term "instant quote" being used frequently on their website but the claim was balanced by the company's offering same-day termite inspections. That's pretty quick service.

Treatment Methods

Heron uses the Sentricon system of bait stations favored by many termite control firms. Some experts maintain that using liquid products applied directly to the soil in addition to bait traps in more effective. But Heron points out that their bait station approach is more environmentally friendly. Photos on the company's website indicate that they use multiple termite control products and methods when appropriate.

Heron also offers the option of TAP® insulation installation. TAP® insulation offers the energy-saving and noise-reduction benefits of traditional insulation plus termite protection for your home. It can be used over the insulation you may already have in your property.

Heron is certified in Integrated Pest Management, a long-term, customized approach to pest control which may interest customers who have more than one pest issue. Integrated Pest Management solutions are based on full-property inspections to determine precisely which insecticides will be most effective for a given property. This approach differs from the "blanket approach" taken by some companies that use pre-formulated multi-pest products. Integrated Pest Management is a costlier, long-term strategy but may appeal to customers who prefer to treat their properties in a more environmentally-friendly way.

Reputation

Heron Home and Outdoor receives an A+ rating from the BBB. A total of 13 complaints have been registered with the BBB but all have been answered or resolved. 

Service Guarantees

Like most companies, Heron will return to your property and re-treat it for free if your termite problem persists after the initial treatment they perform. They also offer a rather confusing satisfaction guarantee if retreatment doesn't solve your problem. They say they will refund the cost of your last treatment within 30 days if you are not satisfied with their service. But since re-treatment is free, we're not sure that guarantee amounts to much.

The company offers a repair warranty agreement, which is available for an additional fee. However, the language that the company uses to describe this warranty is inconsistent and, in places, misleading.The company will pay for damage that occurs post-treatment up to $1,000,000. As with most warranty claims, we expect that recovering funds under this warranty is a complicated process.
