Founded in 2002, Veterans United is a full-service lender that specializes in VA loans for qualifying veterans, military members and their spouses.

Based in Columbia, Missouri, the organization carries an unparalleled reputation for customer satisfaction – Veterans United has a 97% customer recommendation rating.

Like all VA loans, mortgages offered through Veterans United are insured by the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Because of this, the company is able to offer loans with significantly more favorable conditions to service members and veterans than usually available to the civilian population.

These conditions include more flexible qualification guidelines, lower rates, lower monthly payments, no down payments, and no private mortgage insurance.

Veterans United has closed over 700,000 home loans for military service members and their families, but what really sets the company apart is their involvement in the military community.

The company is advised by a board of former senior military personnel representing every service branch whose mission is to educate veterans as to the benefits of VA loan programs and home ownership in general.

Also, Veterans United offers a totally free and no-obligation credit-building program, where veterans and military families have access to trained and dedicated consultants who offer advice and strategies for improving credit.

What’s more, Veterans United has unmatched VA loan expertise and is the country’s No. 1 lender for VA purchase loans.

Services and Features

For borrowers seeking VA loans, Veterans United offers VA Purchase Loans, VA Cash-Out Refinance Loans, and VA Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loans – often called a Streamline Refinance.

To get the ball rolling, veterans and service members can avail themselves of a host of online calculators and educational tools to assess their own financial situation, learn the VA loan process, and get help with finding the right home given all this information.

Eligibility

To determine eligibility, prospective borrowers may have to initially provide the following information:

  • Buy or Refinance

  • Military service history

  • State

  • Value of home desired

  • Planned Date of Purchase

  • Credit Score

Qualification

Because VA loans are insured by the federal government, credit score typically isn’t as much of a limiting factor as it is with conventional loans, however, it still will play a part.

If your credit is less than stellar it would be a good idea to avail yourself of Veterans United’s credit building service. As an active or former service member, the company connects you with credit and VA loan experts free of charge to help get you on track to securing a home.

All prospective borrowers under the VA loan program must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Veterans Administration. Veterans United may be able to get this document for you.

In order to get a COE, generally speaking, you must:

  • Have 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime, or

  • Have 181 days of service during peacetime, or

  • Six years in the Reserves or National Guard, or

  • Be the spouse of a service member who has died in the line of duty or as a result of an injury sustained in the line of duty

VA Loans with Veterans United

Veterans United is not just a financial organization providing VA loans to service members, they are a full service resource of advice and help for active and former military personnel.

The company offers a trove of online guidance and education. So it’s not just a matter of do you qualify or not. Veterans United will work with you from the very beginning of the process and guide you along the path of finding the right home, getting your credit in shape, and selecting the best possible VA loan for your situation. A top choice for all the different types of VA loans.

Veterans United was a great company to work with. They were easy to reach and very knowledgeable. They took the time to research my questions and come back with the correct answers. I will be returning to Veterans United when it is time for my next loan.

I did research 3 other lenders however I chose Veterans United because the tone of their voice and their friendly manner. I did not feel like I was on trial like a couple of other companies made me feel. I did not feel that Veterans were acting like they were doing me a favor. I am the one paying the bills there and making their salaries and they were almost grateful for my business. Thank you for your kindness and projection kindness and appreciation for my business.

Above and beyond. We couldn't have been more happier than this. From the selling of our house, to the buying of our new one they did everything outstanding.

I wasn't sure who I going to use as a lender. I saw Veterans United commercials quite a few times. I am so glad I decided to choose them. The process was a little daunting at first, but they walked me through it and answered all of our concerns. They have made me a very happy wife. Thank you!

I will highly recommend VU to everyone I know that is thinking of purchasing a home. I couldn't have asked for a better team, or a smoother transaction.

Overall, it was great working with VU. The portal provides ease in exchanging documents and conducting e-signatures. Also provides you a to-do list that is easier to accomplish compared to other home loan portal platform. The home buying concierge was a huge plus, never had that before and it was very helpful especially for transitioning veterans. The only thing I was disappointed in was the loan servicing can vary since your loan might be sold elsewhere but I do understand that from an enterprise perspective. Otherwise, I was very satisfied with the loan and home buying process with VU and I don’t see why I wouldn’t finance or refinance a home loan with them in the future.

How many wonderful things can I say about Ryan Chinnis in one post? He is responsive (i.e. He returned my initial email on a Sunday afternoon), knowledgeable, professional, courteous, and funny! As a first time homebuyer, I had many questions about the process, yet Ryan always took the time to answer my questions and I never felt rushed. Also, all of my calls, texts, and emails were quickly returned. Ryan and his team made the stressful experience of buying a home feel very easy and I would recommend them and VU to any potential homebuyer. Deanna matched Ryan’s energy, professionalism, availability, and knowledge. The entire team seemed trustworthy and I had a great experience... Read More
