Ooma Features

Ooma's VoIP technology uses significantly less bandwidth than systems offered by many of their competitors. Consumers can talk on the phone and surf the internet at the same time without degrading the quality of either experience. Phone calls made through Ooma are encrypted for greater communication security. The company also claims that its technology results in natural-sounding high-fidelity calls.

One of Ooma's standout features is its mobile app, which allows people to make phone calls through their Ooma systems from their cell phones while avoiding the talk-minutes charges that cell phone carriers impose. The app, which is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, also reduces international calling charges significantly by sending voice data through your mobile phone's WiFi or data connection.

Other features include:

  • WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity for expansion to other devices
  • Voicemail with one-touch access
  • System connects to up to four wireless handsets
  • Stable, Linux-based operating system
  • Anonymous call blocking
  • Use your existing phone number or choose a new number from any US area code
  • 911 calls
  • Online 24/7 chat support
  • Daytime phone support seven days a week

Ooma Summary

Ooma offers individual, non-business consumers the opportunity to use their mobile phones while avoiding minutes charges and international calling fees. Once the system has been purchased, Ooma does not charge a monthly fee for its basic service customers--and imposes a very modest charge for its premium options. The service connects easily to home WiFi systems an doesn't require any additional hardware. As such, it is a very attractive option for people who talk on their phones a lot and wish to cut their monthly bills while improving the fidelity of their communications.

It seems that customer service for Porting a phone number from another carrier is non-existent. It's really too bad, I was told they have good call quality but really prefer to have you use the number they want to provide you. They should say this up front, I was told no problem as I had the port check made and they confirmed it could be Ported.

Very poor customer service / support!!! Our system lost connection at least 3 times a week causing us to miss several calls. When calling Ooma to resolve issue, its up to you to fix the problem. When our contract was up we switched. Will NEVER use Ooma again!!!

No call blocking, no voicemail, nothing of value unless you get Premier plan. Bait and switch. Terrible company. Go with any other service.
