Safelite is an auto glass repair and replacement company that began in Wichita, Kansas in 1947. It's currently headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and has locations in all 50 states. It specializes in all auto glass repairs and replacements, including windshields, car windows, power window motors, rear windshields, and safety system recalibrations.

Areas Served

Safelite is one of the best-known names in windshield repair and replacements, in part because it has one of the largest service areas in the industry. It has locations in all 50 states which are easy to find with a convenient locator tool on the company website.

Safelite also has  MobileGlassShops™ that come to you if you don't live near a physical location. Technicians travel to your desired location, depending on what is most convenient for you, and complete the service there. While Safelite's website doesn't indicate how far its technicians are willing to travel from their branch locations, it does say that 97% of Americans are covered. You can schedule online and are shown options for both mobile or in-shop services.

Services

Safelite's core business includes windshield repairs and replacements. Typically, if you have three or fewer chips or cracks and the damage is under six inches onyour windshield, the company can repair the windshield instead of replacing it, which can save you money. If you do need a full windshield replacement and your vehicle has an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), your technician can also assist in recalibrating your safety system's cameras after the new windshield is put in place. Safelite can fix damage to other types of auto glass including side window glass and rear windshields. They also offer power window motor repair service, but don't currently fix sunroofs.

What sets Safelite's service apart from so many of its other competitors are the little things. Their technicians will contact you before they arrive and you can track your technician directly on your mobile phone. Once the job is finished, your Safelite technician will clean the interior of your vehicle, including vacuuming up any debris from the windshield repair or replacement and clean the new glass. It's details like these that have garnered Safelite so many positive customer reviews.

Time

You can schedule a Safelite appointment online. Same-day service may be possible in some cases, depending on where you live, and what kind of service you require. If you need to change your appointment time later, you can do so online through their customer portal. Your technician will text or call you on the day of your appointment to confirm his or her arrival time so you know when to meet them.

The time it will take to fix your windshield will depend on the severity of the damage. For chips and cracks, you can expect a safe drive-away time of around 30 minutes, which is on par with many of the other top names in the industry. For a full windshield replacement, the safe drive-away time could be 60 minutes or longer depending on recalibration services.

Cost

Many drivers won't pay anything for chips or cracks in their windshield because Safelite works with many major insurers. While you can contact your insurance provider to verify that it covers Safelite's services, you can also contact Safelite directly and it will check with your insurance company for you. If you require a full windshield replacement or if your insurance doesn't cover windshield repair, you may have to pay something out of pocket and you can get an estimate of your costs by using the quote tool on Safelite's website.

Under their nationwide lifetime warranty, automotive glass is warrantied against defects in material or workmanship for as long as you own the vehicle in which the glass is installed so long as such defects are brought to the attention of Safelite within 30 days of your discovery of a defect. However, based on its glowing customer reviews, it seems that few have run into these types of issues with Safelite.

Tech never showed up nor did anyone call! It’s literally impossible to get an actual person on the phone so I continued to email customer service. I had made my appointment way in advance! The office called 2 days ahead of appointment and confirmed everything! The tech also called the day before and confirmed everything! They want to reschedule my appointment for another whole week away for my windshield replacement! My Husband stayed at work for 2 extra hours waiting on these people! They were supposed to arrive anytime between 8am & 6pm lol. I finally had to call the tech at a quarter to 7pm and he informed me that he was still on another job almost 2 hours away! Crappy company!!!

Avoid this company like a plague! I submitted information online only to determine the cost of a windshield replacement. Safelite Solutions filed a claim linked into USAA and my insurance policy without my authorization. I never scheduled any services from Safelite. I never contacted my insurance carrier nor filed any claim for a windshield. I was merely researching the potential cost of a windshield replacement!! I have spent hours trying to get this fraudulent claim resolved!

I had to go through their website and provide my insurance information, and they quoted me a crazy high number. I know for a fact that my insurance covers the total cost. There is no person to talk to in Safelite. It is scamming people.
