The Milwaukee-based Bright Cellars offers a wine subscription program that gives consumers the opportunity to experience new wines every month based on their taste profile. Founded in 2014 by two MIT graduates, Bright Cellars uses its own algorithm (called Bright Points) to score wines and match clients based on their preferences.

Membership Programs

Bright Cellar’s membership program is straightforward: customers receive four new wines matched from their profile every month for $88 plus tax (which varies by state).

Members create their profile by answering a two-minute survey that asks about particular tastes in food and drink. Bright Cellars compares 18 attributes to your preference, creating a flavor profile, and matching you with wines you’ll like.

Members can contact a Bright Cellars wine concierge to make adjustments to their accounts — such as swapping out one wine for another — before the next shipment is sent.

Bright Cellar’s in-house sommeliers select wines from small vineyards all over the world, including the U.S., Europe, and South America.

Shipping

Customers can choose their delivery frequency between monthly, bi-monthly, and quarterly. Members automatically receive a package containing four wine bottles which have been specifically chosen for them and have the option to postpone, skip or cancel their orders before their shipment is processed.

UPS and FedEx handle all Bright Cellar shipments. Couriers will make up to three attempts to deliver the package to the client. Customers will be charged a $25 non-refundable fee for undelivered packages. Someone who is at least 21 years of age must be present to sign for all shipments.

Customer Service

Customer service is available over the phone or email. If, for any reason, you are unhappy with your shipment or dislike a wine bottle you received, you can contact the Concierge Team for assistance (available Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm CT). Concierges will help you select a free replacement bottle for your next shipment, if applicable.

Bright Cellars is an accredited business with the BBB and holds an A+ rating. Although the company has a less-than-stellar score on Trustpilot, it’s based on only six reviews.

I have specific tastes and I explained those clearly. Kept going for 6 months, but rarely got wines I liked or would ever buy at any price. Even after repeated emails to concierge, the selections still seemed just completely random. In each box I would get 2 bottles that were undrinkable. Just not good wine. Responsive customer service and feedback, but the product just never improved. Cancelled.

Bright Cellars made a mistake on my email address and sent wine to me without my confirmation. Wine received from a delivery truck and the driver said the back of the truck was over 100 degrees. Wine was refused. Bright Cellars was called and would only make a partial refund, even though sending the wine was their mistake. I believe they should confirm they have the correct email address before sending any wine and they should know not to deliver unrefrigerated wine to Southern Florida at the beginning of summer. Additionally, they should have known their emails to me were not delivered.
