The California Wine Club was founded in 1990 with the mission of helping California's thousands of small artisanal wineries gain exposure in the larger world outside the west coast. The company provides monthly delivery of handcrafted wines from family wineries along with the story behind each.

The California Wine Club has personal relationships with the families that operate their featured wineries. As distributors usually deal only with large corporate wineries, many of the wines The California Wine Club features are not available in stores. Membership in the club is oftentimes the only way those outside of California wine country can ever get a chance at sampling them.

Membership Programs

The California Wine Club offers six different wine club levels with varying products and price points:

  • The Premier Series, its most popular and affordable option, features two wines from a different winery every month. Customers can customize their shipment and choose from two or four bottles, combining reds and whites as desired. The price of the two bottle option is $41.95 per shipment, while the four bottle option is $83.90
  • The Signature Series features some of the highest-rated and coveted wines and comes in two, three, or four bottle shipments. Prices are $137, $205.11, and $255.98, respectively.
  • The International Series spotlights handcrafted wines from all around the world, including France, Italy, and Argentina among many others. Customers can choose to receive one red and one white for $68 or two of the same reds for $74.
  • The Aged Cabernet Series includes Napa and Sonoma cabernets, aged from seven to twelve years. Customers receive two bottles per shipment for $216.
  • The Pacific Northwest Series features products from small wineries in Oregon and Washington. Customers can receive one white and one red for $80 or two of the same reds for $110.
  • The Case Club Series allows customers to buy in bulk, and features three bottles each of four different wines (12 total bottles) for $168. The wines are selected from artisan wineries predominantly from California, but can also include wines from the Pacific Northwest and other countries. Customers can choose to receive all reds, all whites, or a mix of both.

As part of the membership perks, customers receive the Uncorked® guide to each winery, access to personal wine consultants, and their own personalized "Wine Cellar" to track their favorites online.

The California Wine Club functions on a pay as you go basis, meaning there is no contract length and you can cancel anytime without penalty.

Shipping

The California Wine Club can ship nearly anywhere in the United States. Deliveries can take as little as two days or up to three weeks, depending on the destination.

Customers can choose to receive shipments monthly, every other month, or quarterly, depending on the membership level and number of bottles being purchased.

Customer Service

The California Wine Club features the “Love It Guarantee”, which states that if you do not enjoy one of the bottles you receive, the club will send a replacement or refund your money for the bottle.

Customers can contact the California Wine Club via mail, fax, email, or by phone. They are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PT.

The California Wine Club currently holds an A+ rating with the BBB but has no reviews on Trustpilot.

THE CALIFORNIA WINE CLUB REVIEW

The California Wine Club is an excellent choice for a wine club if you are interested in the small, award-winning, artisanal wineries of California. However, despite its name the company does not restrict you to the wines of California. Its Pacific Northwest and International Series give you access to quality wines from around the world.

Nonetheless, what makes the company stand out is its variety of plans. The high-end membership levels feature some of the more prestigious wines, but the Premier Series ensures that those on a budget are not left out. The "Love It" guarantee and personal wine consultants are also worthwhile perks.
