Naked Wines is an online, customer-funded wine retailer located in the town of Napa, California, with a winery located in Sonoma Valley. Nakedwines.com offers both individual wine bottles and wine cases. It also has sections on independent winemakers and numerous wine groups.

Nakedwines.com sells red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines, as well as champagne. The company supports local producers with the help of its over 100,000 loyal customers (called Angels) who are responsible for funding winemakers upfront, which in turn reduces the costs of operating in the wine industry. The results are more affordable wines at wholesale prices for consumers, while allowing winemakers to focus on producing better wines.

Membership Programs

Nakedwines.com does not charge any membership fees. Wine lovers can simply purchase bottles or cases of wines through its website whenever and as often as they want.

However, the company does feature an exclusive group of customers called "Angels." These are the people responsible for helping fund the company’s winemaking partners. Angels are entitled to as much as a 40% to 60% discount on wines, free sample bottles of Angel-funded wines worth $19.99 or more, access to Angel-only wines, invitations to Angel-only tastings, and more.

To become an Angel, customers have to subscribe through the Nakedwines.com website and wait until there is an available slot for them. Each month, Angels deposit $40 into their wine savings account to help fund winemakers. Those funds are available to use at any moment.

Nonetheless, customers should be aware that this is a recurring monthly payment and that, by signing up, they are agreeing to the terms and conditions of the service.

Naked Wines offers products from a huge collection of rosé, white, red, sparkling, and dessert wines from the U.S. and other countries including France, Australia, Italy, and Spain. Among the highest rated winemakers on the service are Scott Peterson, Patrice Grasset, Matt Parish, Penelope Gadd-Coster, and Gerd Stepp, just to name a few.

Shipping

The company charges a flat, $9.99 shipping fee for mainland deliveries via FedEx, GSO, or UPS. This fee is waived when making purchases over $100, except for shipments made to the states of Alaska and Hawaii, which cost $130 and $70 per package, respectively.

Packages are delivered from Monday to Friday or from Tuesday through Saturday (depending on the destination) during regular working hours. To receive a shipment, a signature from someone over 21 years old is required.

Currently, Nakedwines.com does not offer deliveries to Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Mississippi, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island, or Utah.

Deliveries take three to five business days for Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. For all other states, between one and four business days.

Customer Service

Nakedwines.com offers a money back guarantee if customers don’t like the wine they receive. Customers would need to contact the company by phone call or email to make the claim.

The company has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 2012 and currently holds an A+ rating, although a disclaimer has been made about a large number of complaints related to the monthly $40 charge. On Trustpilot, it has an “Excellent” score of 4.5 out of 5.

Additionally, Nakedwines.com has been the recipient of numerous industry awards, including prestigious awards at the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition, 2016 Gold and Silver Stevie Awards for Innovation in Customer Service and Best Overall Customer Service, respectively, 2011 and 2010 Fast Growth Business Awards, and more.

Nakedwines.com Wine Club Review

A large selection of hand-made wines, which are classified according to style, type, grape, rating, country, region, price, and winemaker, sold at wholesale prices makes Nakedwines.com an outstanding choice for wine aficionados.

Joining the company's Angel loyalty program is an excellent way of purchasing wines at greatly discounted prices, and nets members a free monthly wine bottle as well.

However, what sets the company apart from other wine delivery services is its commitment to helping independent winemakers. Buying from Nakedwines.com is a win-win situation where wine lovers are able to enjoy competitively priced wines while supporting independent winemakers directly, thereby helping them focus on improving the quality of their wines.

Why people do not get that they are contributing at least $40.00 per month to their own account, is beyond me. It is clearly stated up front, and seems to be the main complaint against them. The second most common complaint I see, is that their wines are about the same quality as store wines. To get a comparable wine, you have to pay more in the store, and try a number of them, to find one you like. One has to purchase, to one's individual tastes. I personally prefer cork and glass, to boxes. I suspect that most who prefer store wines, have managed to develop a taste for them. There are good wines in stores, and there are not. As a white wine drinker, I am perfectly satisfied... Read More

I have been an "Angel" since early in 2021. I have been very happy with their offerings and their customer service. Only two out of 48 bottles comprising many varieties, have been sub-par. Refunds were prompt and hassle free. I am a bit suspicious of some of the hatchet job reviews I've seen of them, based on my overwhelmingly positive experience. I am very pleased to commend them to anyone who enjoys fine wines and exceptional service.

I don't understand why people are so confused when NakedWines deducts $40.00 from their credit/debit card. It was clearly stated on their website or the voucher I used the first time. I read everything before purchasing, and especially when something has the word 'club' on it. Once I tried their wine, I knew we were getting quality, amazing wine. The following month I was eager for them to take my money. NakedWines has an excellent customer service, they will reimburse any wine you disliked for whatever reason, the money you contribute every month is yours at any time, either for reimbursement or to purchase wine. They also offer the opportunity to interact with the winemakers; who are... Read More

After purchasing three or four cases of wine , I think the suggested retail is overstated, the wine is an okay weekday wine, if there is a wide variety of wine sellers in your area you could do as well or better purchasing locally. I did order another case last night hoping to find something special.

Drinkable, but mostly very young, wines, with a concentration on the West Coast. It's kind of fun to try a variety, although it appears they overstate the "list price" of wines to make the deals seem better.

I originally signed up to try the 6 bottles of white wine. The company upgraded me to angel status. I did not agree to have a subscription. After receiving the 6 bottles I reached out to the company to tell them I was no longer interested in their wines as several of the bottles were sweet which I do not like or drink. When I did the math the cost of the bottles I did like was more than I pay at the grocery for wines I know I like. No one responded. Since that time I have sent multiple emails yet no one bothers to respond. They have debited my account $40 for being an angel which I never asked to be. I am completing paperwork to reverse their charge. No where on their site is there the... Read More

I found the wine from a previous offer was not that good and overpriced even with special pricing. No one in right mine would sample and pay full price. Not sure where all the positive ratings on their wines come from. Just received a new offer in March: "Not somebody's leftovers, but a scintillating selection of our very best worth $161. To tempt you to become a regular customer, I'm extending special pricing -- making your nakedwines.com Favorites Pack only $68.99." Plus 3 more bottles and free shipping. BECOME A REGULAR CUSTOMER MEANS PAY THEM $40/MONTH! This is not stated. I received a confirmation email for wine I ordered then a second email welcoming me to club. I smelled something... Read More
