Noom offers personalized, direct-to-consumer weight-loss programs and health-coaching solutions through its online platform. It has a focus on treating chronic and pre-chronic conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. The company is based in the Greater New York area and has additional offices in Seoul, South Korea, and Tokyo, Japan.

Services and Features

Noom promises to help customers lose weight and prevent or treat health conditions through comprehensive changes to their eating behavior. They contrast this approach with traditional diets, which are designed only to limit what a person eats instead of changing how a person eats. The program's mobile app—an essential part of its functionality— makes this easy by keeping track of meals and other related activities, like the number of steps taken in a day. Being able to speak with others in support groups and the added assistance of a personal coach also ensures that users are surrounded by like-minded individuals who can lend each other a hand in the process.

Before providing users with a comprehensive weight-loss plan, Noom guides them through a short questionnaire. The process is what helps them outline a personalized plan for customers and can be finished in as little as 30 seconds. First, Noom asks what the ideal weight a user wants to reach is, as well as their height and current weight. It then asks for the user's gender and age range. A series of questions regarding their eating and fitness habits then follows. Afterward, Noom inquires about the user's health, such as if they suffer from significant problems with their back, have taken antibiotics in the last 2 years, and if they have been diagnosed with or received treatment for diabetes.

Noom's two-month custom course weight-loss plan is individually designed for each customer by world-class doctors and psychologists and is proven by top medical journals and institutions, including the British Medical Journal and the University of Sydney’s Medical Center. It is free for the first 14 days so users can determine if they want to follow through with the program or not.

Diet Plans at Noom

Noom is a powerful tool for those who want more than a simple diet plan. Through the use of its powerful mobile app, customers can easily log food, keep track of their wellness goals, contact other users and their personal coach, and access hundreds of articles, suggestions, and research concerning overall health and fitness. An affordable price for the program's two-month duration makes it accessible for just about everyone with a phone as well. Customers without a phone with access to the mobile app should probably search for other weight-loss alternatives, but we can otherwise fully recommend Noom for anyone who wants to change their dietary and fitness habits in a short span of time.

I signed up for their “FREE” trial. The very next day I wrote to their customer service and they cancelled my membership. I got a email confirmation saying my account was cancelled. I didn’t even use their program or their app and had it less than 24 hours. They billed me $10. This is the reply I got back when I questioned the $10 charge. Rebecca (Noom Support) Sep 21, 10:38 PM EDT Hi, Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, the trial charge of $10 is non-refundable since by registering for the Noom trial, you agree to this minimum charge. My apologies for any inconvenience this causes! Very best, Rebecca Collins Now please tell me how they can advertise a free trial... Read More

Buyer beware. Do not trust these people. Ignore their feel-good commercials. Read up on their BBB Rating if you don't believe the reviews. This is a company that will charge you for an entire year's subscription BEFORE your "trial period" comes to a close. Their refund policy makes it impossible to get your money back. DO NOT use this App! It's a gigantic money pit. When you go to attempt to cancel your trial period, there's no easy option - you must submit a request through their messenger - which takes days and days and days to respond - which could easily lapse over your trial period. Oh and those friendly "coaches" Noon says they have? They're nothing than fine-tuned robots.... Read More

I signed up for the 14-day trial. I looked into the program and decided there was nothing special about the program and was not interested. I never looked at it again after that as there was no point in paying for a remedial course in basic fitness and nutrition. I am a nurse so already know this information....nothing special as advertised. I tried figuring out how to cancel and was unable to figure it out and figure that it was a minimal trial cost so no harm no foul. This morning I received a notification that I was charged $150.There was absolutely no communication regarding the auto-renewal was coming due and I had not thought twice about it since taking a look and deciding I did... It's a money making racket. Avoid it at all costs! I didn't use them once but they still charged me €80. Make sure you turn off automatic charging!!!

I can't even download the app to be ABLE to cancel. My phone is a 7.1 Android O.S. and I didn't see until too late that you need at least a 10.3. So I can't even get into my account. NO WAY TO CONTACT ANYONE ANYWHERE!! What a SCAM!! So far they only have $1 of my money, and I'm still trying to figure out how to stop anything in the future! AWFUL!!

Buyer Beware on Noom. I bought the diet and exercise plan up front thinking it was designed to integrate with the APP. It is not. The plan provided is no more scientific, well thought out, or well presented than an article in Woman's World Magazine. It does not integrate with the APP and is not refundable. THE DIET AND EXERCIZE PLANS ARE A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY. The App is also a huge waste of money. There is day to day advice you can read which is touted as having the advantage of phycology behind it. It is no better advice than you can get from a standard internet article. The one-on-one coaching is the biggest scam of all. You will get a few canned emails. Mu specific... Read More

Unethical business practices bordering on a SCAM. After 2 week trial for $3 my account was nailed for $139 with NO RECOURSE. There is absolutely no way to dispute this through chat, phone, or email. NOOM has totally isolated itself from customer contact except through their virtual coaches which are mostly made up of canned replies and no help at all. BEWARE!

The diet plan may be adequate but the billing policies leave much to be desired. To remove yourself from the plan you have to tell the coach who says I can't help you with your account. Then you have to link to the account and billing people. They have devised a way to charge you $149 every 4 months without your approval for each transaction. This may not be illegal but it is not ethical.

It’s a scam and there’s no way to get a refund once they’ve charged you.

I tried the trial and found it was not conducive to my style of dieting. I thought i had cancelled it prior to being charged only to discover they have been charging me for the past year without even giving us a notice that it was due to be charged. That is what upset me most. If I hadn't caught the charge I would have never known and they would probably keep charging me even though I haven't touched the app for a year.
