Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

Thank you Petplan! My dog, Sky, recently tore her ACL and was in an incredible amount of pain. Fortunately we had purchased a Petplan policy when she was a puppy so I didn't have to worry about how I was going to pay for her surgery. She was diagnosed on a Friday, had surgery on Monday and I had a check from Petplan exactly 2 weeks later. Filing the claim was easy and I was kept advised as to how the claim was progressing. I even received a call and an email to make sure I had received my check. Yes, the rates are going up next year and more than I would like, but after talking with Kim today I was able to find a customized plan that I can afford and will give my dog the coverage... I signed up for this insurance after my sister's dog had a stick stuck in their nose and had to spend thousands to have it removed. I have been very happy. There Customer Service is great, I always ask for Tom Cliggerman and he is the best. He helped me install an app that I can submit claims right on my phone.

Their pricing was good, I just received a letter saying my premium was going to double, yes I said double if I were to keep the same coverage. Not because I filed any claims, but because they are changing underwriters. If I go with their recommended new plan it would be a $300 increased deductible, 10 % less reimbursement and about $150 more a year. To change insurance carriers now, if I can will be bad because she would now have a preexisting condition and is 7 years old, don't know what to do. They actually deserve zero stars.

Petplan was a decent company and paid my claims, but now they have changed underwriters. What this means is that my premiums and deductible went through the roof and my 100% policy doesn't exist anymore. So, higher premiums, higher deductibles, and less coverage. How is that right? My pets now have pre-existing conditions that would not be covered if we change plans. I'm trapped now, but you don't have to be.

Petplan has been nothing but stellar to work with. 3 months ago, our male cat Zephyr had to be taken to an emergency vet clinic for a urinary blockage. (It was on a weekend and our vet referred us there). Sent the claim into Petplan and in no time received the claim check. A few weeks ago, Zephyr started having issues again. This time surgery was required to fix the problem. Once again,Petplan came thru! I cannot thank them enough for being there for us and our little man! 😺

Charged me $30.47 per month, collected hundreds of dollars, but then would not reimburse me a single dollar for my vet bill. Then when I canceled my plan, instead of reimbursing me for the full amount of $30.47, the stole over $5 without any explanation. So beware of this company as they were dishonest with me.

We had a trial policy and really was looking at their insurance afterward. Our newly adopted dog was given a clean bill of health from the Edmonton Humane Society but within a week or so he was coughing a lot so we took him to the vet. The Vet took x-rays and provided a preventative medication until tests came back. He was prescribed the correct meds as he was diagnosed with Kennel Cough. We asked about our trial policy and he was not in the system, so I sent all the adoption documentation to PetPlan and waited, and waited and waited........ We had to follow up with emails and voicemail's and not until I went on Twitter to complain do I get help. Wow if I get treated like this on a... Read More

I just had the unthinkable happen. My 1 year old Pekingese contracted encephalitis . Thank goodness I had pet insurance through Pet Plan! My baby had 2 stays at PennVet with specialist treatment, a visit to an ER, ongoing medicines and acupuncture . Between April and Sept when I lost her, Pet Plan covered over $10,000 in medical expenses. The claim submission process was very easy and claim payment was very fast! I am very glad I chose Pet Plan

I have been a subscriber to Pet Plan since my puppy passed through the 6 month waiting period. My annual deductible goes up every year and I hadn't filed any claims. I wasn't happy about this. I almost canceled the plan. My dog suddenly seemed like he was in pain, which the vet couldn't diagnose. I had to take my 5-year-old dog to a specialist who wanted to do an MRI. The MRI was inconclusive so the vet called during the procedure asking to do a spinal tap. We didn't have time to get preapproval of insurance. My dog was not eating at the onset. Long story short, I was able to get these tests done and proper care for my fairly young dog thanks to the insurance. I filed my first claims. I... Read More

Petplan changed underwriters in 2016. Not only has my insurance cost gone up significantly but I am not offered the new "per year" deductible option they now offer rather than per incident option if my cat has had even one claim. It is much more expensive for my current plan than I had paid in the past.Their explanation is that they offer better coverage now, but to get my current pricing I need to increase my deductible or choose less yearly coverage. My current plan option is now unaffordable. Also when I call customer service they often do not answer and a message asks for a call back phone number and then never call back. I have also spoken to customer service about policy plan... Read More
