Founded in 2000, Verizon Fios is an internet service provider that primarily serves the northeast section of the US. Their award-winning service receives consistently high consumer ratings and has been recognized by as one of the best internet service providers for gamers. The company is located in New York, New York.

Verizon FIOS stands out among internet service providers for pioneering one of the first "final mile" fiber optic networks. Unlike some fiber optic networks, which use fiber to get "almost all the way" to subscribers' homes, but make the final connection with traditional coaxial cable, Verizon FIOS brings a pure fiber optic experience to its customers' doorsteps. The result is speedier, more reliable service. The company does offer DSL internet service (rather confusingly named "high speed internet service") for customers looking for a low monthly service fee, but comparing at the megabyte to megabyte level, their FIOS option is a better value.

With Verizon FIOS you can choose one of three high-speed fiber optic service plans. At $39.99 for 200 Mpbs download and upload speeds, Verizon's basic plan is an excellent value. The company guarantees that rate for 12 months, even without a contract. They also throw in the incentive of free Disney+ TV for 12 months with this basic plan. Like most other plans, Verizon FIOS's advertised prices don't include taxes or equipment fees. Verizon charges $15.99 a month or $299 per year for modem rental. They also charge a $99 set-up fee, but waive this fee when you choose their top-tier plan. All plans come with unlimited data, a feature we highly approve of. But it's very important to review any plan's pricing structure carefully so you know exactly what you're signing up for. The good news with Verizon FIOS is that if you are ever unhappy with the service, you can cancel anytime without any early termination fees.

In the course of reviewing dozens of internet service providers, we've learned that internet service providers is another category of companies customers love to hate. That's why we think it's worth mentioning that Verizon FIOS appears to be an exception to the rule. The company is A+ rated by the BBB. Verizon FIOS has also ranked best on PC Magazine's Readers Choice survey for 13years in a row. That's a pretty impressive pedigree.

Currently, Verizon FIOS has a pecial discount offer we think is worth noting. Teachers, nurses, military personnel, and first responders now receive a $5 per month discount on the company's basic fiber optic plan.
