The company's designs were born out of a series of cushioning innovations invented and developed by brothers Tony and Terry Pearce. After a significant investment, over the course of two years, they engineered their patent-pending Mattress Max™ machine to produce Hyper-Elastic Polymer™ to cover a king-sized mattress at production rates that allowed the company to sell the product affordably online.

Though Purple's original mattress design is still available, the company's more recent New Purple® mattress offers more options for the consumer, with three different heights (2", 3", and 4") for varying comfort. The 2" is designed for people who enjoy a slightly firmer feel and who sleep on their backs, the 3" is optimized for sleepers who often change positions, and the 4" is best for customers who prefer softer, cushier mattresses, or who enjoy sleeping on their sides.

Purple offers a 100-night's sleep guarantee with a full refund and pickup, should the buyer not be fully satisfied. The original purchase includes a white glove service, which includes free delivery and installation of the mattress and/or bed frame. Budget-conscious consumers will also be glad to know that Purple has financing plans available, with as little as 0% APR and does offer a 10% military discount.
The Purple mattress includes a 10-year warranty, the conditions of which are fairly standard for comparable companies, including automatic voiding if the product is used against indications. Consumers will not be charged for replacement or repairs to their mattress if Purple deems it to be defective according to the conditions laid out in the warranty, i.e. an indentation greater than one inch deep, while used according to all the company's guidelines. Other Purple products also feature warranties, such as two years for the zippered cover, and a one-year limited warranty for pillows.
