MASA Assist is an emergency medical transportation provider that offers its service through a membership program. The company's programs are designed to offset the staggering cost of medical transport (particularly air transport) that could be incurred in an emergency. MASA members pay a yearly fee and one time signup fee, and are then covered should a situation arise that they need emergency transportation.

Services are mainly located in the western hemisphere covering the USA, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and nearby areas. Aside from offering medical air transport for members, MASA Assist also provides ground ambulance and helicopter transportation.

Coverage

MASA Assist offers three coverage options depending on where you live. All plans have a one-time $60 signup fee.

BASIC - $240 for one person and $360 for the family.

MASA's Basic plan is available to residents of the Bahamas, Bermuda, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Turks and Caicos, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago.

This plan is essentially the Basic plan but comes with direct emergency air transport to the United States as well.

PLATINUM - $540 for one person and $720 for the family.

For residents of the US, Canada and Mexico. MASA's  Platinum plan covers customers worldwide. If you require emergency transport MASA's network will get you to the nearest appropriate medical facility regardless of where you are in the world.

Last year we put in a claim for services right after we got home from FL. No response....waited ,a few months and resubmitted.....nothing. Called a few months later ans was told to resubmit and someone would stay right on it.........wait again. Another email. Finally, I believe Gisele called and said she would look into it. She called last week and we were told claims can no longer be paid because they're over six months old. Someone dropped the ball with the first and second time and now we lose out on $800? Where's the justice and fairness? QUp to this point we only had great experiences with MASA. Now we are forced to give a zero......no stars!!!!!!

Our son more taken 10 years ago, got his jaw broke in our home by a guest and was taken to the ER by ambulance. This the why we took out insurance. We took out this policy for full family coverage should this ever happen again, we'd have the ambulance ride paid for by insurance. Our kids became adults off our plan, and it was only my husband and I. But my ride to the hospital in an ambulance in October was NOT paid .... they just noticed me that ONLY my husband was covered. ... so though we have been paying this $54 a month for all these years never needed to ever ask them for anything.... and we are asked for almost $2,000 we thought we'd never have to pay. We can buy a policy... Read More

Useless! Due to their slow response time, the patient had been in the hospital long enough that only rehabilitation was needed. Which would be fine, except that MASA's agreement states that they do, "not provide an air ambulance transfer out of or into a skilled nursing or rehabilitation setting," so if they wait long enough they'll never have to pay. Kindly they suggest a common carrier, which promptly denies transport due to the extent of the patients disabilities. This left no choice but to book the air ambulance ourselves.

This company is a scam. My father in law paid a hefty premium for years & was told that he had nothing to worry about ever getting home in his time of need. Because he needs to return home to hospice, they will not help him. Now the family has to pay for air fair for his wife to return home and pay for more air fair to fly out to have this fragile man with broken bones & cancer ride a bumpy drive home across country from Ca to Ne. In my book, scamming the elderly is abuse. They should be ashamed!

This excuse which says they never mention transpiration to hospice is ridiculous. When I tried to get my dying husband home when stage 4 pancreatic cancer was diagnosed, I was told that since he was not going hospital to hospital they could not pay. They said they would pay the cost of a first class ticket for him. Needless to say he could not travel by plane. Then they said they would pay me the cost of a first class ticket which I could apply to some other form of transport. They said they would assist is getting info on medical transport but I did not hear from them again. As a platinum member we felt safe and secure that if we needed emergency medical transportation we were... Read More

I had to call 911 and my husband had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. I have been trying to get MASA to pay the $265 that his insurance did not cover for 8 months. The ambulance company is going to put me into collections, so I had to pay the bill myself, and hope that MASA will pay me back. But I don't see any evidence that I will ever see the money. My lifetime membership is supposed to cover the ambulance, but still no help. I get "We'll have someone call you back" "send in an email with your claim details" But still nothing! This is turning out to be one large investment that has been a bad investment!! I would never recommend MASA to anyone!

The only way you can cancel is by writing to the company. This company does not make it easy to stop the insurance. If you are on Medicare and have a supplemental policy, they ONLY pay what is left over. I am reevaluating keeping this policy.

I signed up a few years back at a camp site. I forgot I even had the plan! Fast forward to a month ago and I was hospitalized from a fall in my home. My neighbor luckily found me and by then I was in bad shape. Because the fall had happened over a day prior (!) and for whatever other reason medicare denied my bill from the ambulance ride in after my concerned neighbor called on my behalf. I called once to fight it and I found I was just spinning my wheels trying to get someone over at medicare services to actually help reverse their decision. Then, I found my plan with MASA. I am so gratefuI had thought to sign up - even though I could not immediately recall I had a plan after all.... Read More

My father was a Platinum Member of MASA for at least a couple of years. He died suddenly August 23rd and had coverage until May of 2019. As the executor I'm working to get the beneficiaries everything they're entitled to and was surprised to learn that MASA policy doesn't give prorated refunds to its customers who die unless it's within 30 days of the renewal date. The good news is that you can choose a month to month plan if you think you might die soon. I've suggested MASA rethink this policy, not for my father but for others in the future. I did want to add that the customer service person was very nice and prompt in her replies and I realise she doesn't make policy.

We have the MASA service and travel frequently. MASA requires that I contact them via email to give them the dates and places of my out of country (USA) trips. In the past few years they have stopped acknowledging my emails and stating that they are covering me for these trips. I send in my email and they say NOTHING NO RESPONSE. I hope to never have a claim but this change in procedure leaves me vulnerable. Shame on MASA you get zero stars!
