Like all VA loans, mortgages offered through Veterans United are insured by the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Because of this, the company is able to offer loans with significantly more favorable conditions to service members and veterans than usually available to the civilian population, like flexible qualification guidelines, lower rates, lower monthly payments, no down payments, and no private mortgage insurance.

As the country's No. 1 Lender for VA purchase loans, Veterans United has closed over 100,000 home loans for military service members and their families.

Veterans United Qualification Requirements

Qualification Requirements - 4.5 / 5

VA loans are a $0 down payment mortgage option available to Veterans, Service Members and select military spouses, are issued by private lenders, and are guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

All prospective borrowers under the VA loan program must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Veterans Administration. Veterans United may be able to get this document for you.

In order to get a COE, generally speaking, you must:
  • Have 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime, or
  • Have 181 days of service during peacetime, or
  • Six years in the Reserves or National Guard, or
  • Be the spouse of a service member who has died in the line of duty or as a result of an injury sustained in the line of duty

  • Because VA loans are insured by the federal government, credit score typically isn’t as much of a limiting factor as it is with conventional loans, however, it still will play a part.

If your credit is less than stellar, it would be a good idea to avail yourself of Veterans United’s credit building service. As an active or former service member, the company connects you with credit and VA loan experts free of charge to help get you on track to securing a home.

If you have additional questions about whether you qualify, you can contact Veterans United's Home Loan Specialists, who are available 24/7.

This company is straight trash! I had a house in Grain Valley Missouri. My family had a few emergencies come up and we fell behind 54 days. They made us restructure our loan, even though We had the money to get current. Then during the restructuring process they always seemed to lose documents, or when we would call we would ALWAYS get different stories or different advice from people. I would stay away from this company. It was the most stressful 4 years dealing with them, then I have had in a long time.

Awesome experience. The title company caused a little stress, but Veterans United was very quick to assist me with getting everything taken care of. The staff were very professional and available anytime I had questions. The secured portal provided copies of all documents that were easy to download and save for future reference.

There is no doubt that our loan officer is awesome but we are now in the process of waiting on a appraisal. This part doesn't make any sense to me. Apparently our loan officer is in the dark about when we will get an appraisal. We can't contact whoever is responsible and have no idea when of even if we will get our appraisal. A few weeks later and we are now past our closing date making our contract void. This is bad because our house has a ton of offers and a cash offer was given to the sellers after we went under contract. Luckily our realtor was able to negotiate for another week. We are approaching our second contract violation and we are still waiting with no clue as to when the... Read More

Hi Victor, I understand that your loan officer has been working hard on this appraisal situation, and that a member of our Client Advocate is reaching out to you (if they have not done so already) to go over more information with you. While mortgage lenders order the appraisal, we do not perform the this task and rely on impartial, unbiased licensed appraisers to perform the appraisal (this is because per federal regulations, the appraiser must be impartial and have no direct or indirect interest in the transaction). I know that this must be frustrating, but I do want to emphasize that we are still here to help and go over options with you. If you have remaining concerns after your contact with our Client Advocates, please do not hesitate to contact the team at 1-800-212-5200 or email ClientAdvocate@veteransunited.com.

Easiest company to work with, at least for me. Try to ask for Leanna Moss and her team. They really cared about my family and I through every step. We were never a “number” or “check in the box”.

As with anything in life, don't Google reviews for Veterans United, you are going to see all kinds of mediocre replies. Every persons experience is different, and my first couple interactions left me thinking I was falling into the same category as the reviews I had been reading online. Then I got handed off to a loan officer that went above and beyond, it was was of the smoothest, best transactions I have ever had. I can say as a first time home buyer, I will sleep soundly at night knowing that I was in good hands and that Veterans United took care of me and my family. I would highly recommend this lender to any Veteran who asks. Thank you Tyler!!!

If you are a veteran looking for help for buying a house, PLEASE use Veteran's United! They will recommend a real estate agent in your area, they will answer all your questions, and keep you in the loop throughout the process! Veterans United is the ONLY company I would EVER go to when buying a house using my Veteran's benefits. Highly professional service with people who treat customers where they are - educating and explaining where necessary, and in all cases treating people with respect.
