Breadth of Services

Careington offers a full complement of telehealth services, including treatment for non-emergency conditions like colds, the flu, and infections, chronic health problems like asthma, and mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. Doctors write short-term prescriptions for non-DEA controlled medicines when medically indicated, which patients can have filled at their local pharmacies.  

Professional Credentials and Licensures

When you book a telehealth appointment through Careington, you will either be connected to a nurse practitioner or a board-certified and state-licensed physician. When we spoke with the company, we were told that patients can elect which type of provider to meet with at the time of their call. If you need to speak with someone immediately, a doctor may not be available, however, you can always choose to wait and schedule an appointment with an MD. 

Price

Careington offers both pay-by-the-visit and subscription-based plans in various combinations. The company is a telehealth provider but some memberships also include discounts on in-person services and prescriptions. You can purchase a combined telehealth and discount plan or sign up for discount-only plans.

If you purchase telehealth appointments individually, Careington's prices are in line with other telehealth service providers'. Doctor appointments cost $65, mental health visits cost $95, and teledentistry appointments cost $60. 

On the other end of the spectrum, if you pay a monthly membership fee of $19.95, there are no additional consult fees. This is probably the least expensive option we've come across when we've compared many telehealth providers. Careington is certainly making health care more affordable.  

Prescription discount plans offer members savings between 15% to 60% off the retail price of generic drugs and 10% to 25% off the retail price of brand name drugs at over 68,000 participating pharmacies nationwide, including CVS, Duane Reade, Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid and other well-known drug stores. Dental and vision care discount plans limit patients to in-network providers.

Customer Experience

Careington provides its services individually and packaged into several different combinations and subscription packages. The company also owns a few different brand names, including DialCare and Munroe Sutton, that it uses to market the different types of service it provides. Overall, we found that navigating the company's website was a little challenging and, although the company certainly makes the attempt to be transparent around pricing, service costs are a little tough to pin down. However, when we contacted one of the company's sales representatives to ask a few questions, we were impressed by the level of knowledge, patience, and concern exhibited by Careington's representative.

Patients can access Careington's services via phone call or mobile video conference. Careington itself has a mobile app you can use to make appointments and manage your account and DialCare, the brand under which Careington markets its full telehealth plan, has its own app you can use to conduct appointments. Neither app is widely reviewed but they do earn high marks from the few users who have rated them.

The Better Business Bureau gives Careington a B+ rating and the company earns 3.8 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot.
