Founded in 2012, Canva offers customers a full range of do-it-yourself graphic design technology which can be accessed online to create resumes, business cards, presentations, social media posts, and more. The company is owned by Canva, Pty Ltd and is located in New South Wales, Australia.

Canva is a visual design enthusiast's dream come true. Want to see how your resume will look when dropped into a hundred different templates? Create a distinctive color palette to complement your personal photo? Experiment with dozens of fonts? You can do it all for one exremely low price: nothing at all. Forever. You can also create and download as many resumes as you want, which is a great feature when trying to tailor your resume to a particular job sector or corporate culture. Canva appears to use personal resume writing as a loss leader to attract customers who may want to step up to their team and enterprise products. And that's great news for you if you're just one individual looking for a job.

Unique visual branding is at the heart of creating a stand-out resume. But nowadays, your resume isn't the only thing that employers look at when considering your candidacy. Many recruiters will search such sites as LinkedIn and Facebook to get a sense of who you are and whether you'd be a good fit for their company. Canva makes it easy to extend your personal brand and create visual consistency wherever you communicate. You can create animated Instagram posts. Capture research you've done into your industry in an attractive chart, then upload it to your LinkedIn page. Canva can support you when you go all in to marketing yourself to prospective employers.

Compared to other resume building tools, however, Canva doesn't support you as well when it comes to developing the non-visual content of your resume. While they offer a great deal of education on their site, including video tutorials that are broken down into nice, easy-to-digest chunks, it's all about the visual and not about the verbal. Canva's service doesn't include help with finding the most important keywords recruiters in your industry are looking for. It doesn't optimize your resume for the ATS search tools employers to cull candidates down to the best qualified. They also don't offer some of the job-matching tools other resume building sites do.

On the other hand, if you understand the basic tenets of successful resume writing, have done a lot of homework into the critical keywords to include to attract recruiters in your industry, and are otherwise very confident that the content of your resume is spot on, Canva can give you a leg up on the competition through its exceptional range of range of design options and brand-extending tools. Creating a great-looking resume is fast, intuitive, and free.
