Nurx offers a curated set of testing and medical treatment services. While more limited than some telemedicine sites where you can schedule an appointment with a physician, the company has a few specialties, including sexual wellness. 

Nurx ships at-home test kits for syphilis and gonorrhea. The company also provides an HPV screening kit. The HPV virus may stay in your body for years after exposure, with or without causing an acute infection. But knowing you have the virus is important because it puts people at greater risk for cancer of the cervix, penis, throat, and tonsils. Many physicians routinely screen for HPV now.

If you test positive for any of these STDs, Nurx can send you prescription medication to clear the infection. If you suffer from herpes, for which currently there is no cure, the company can send you topical and oral treatments to manage your symptoms.

Licensing and Accreditations

Nurx sends test samples to licensed laboratories for completion. The company does not discuss how these labs are accredited on its site, however. 

Like most telehealth platforms, Nurx does not employ doctors directly. However, if you need treatment for any of the conditions Nurx addresses, your case will be reviewed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician's assistant licensed to practice in your state. These health professionals all have prescribing privileges. They'll evaluate whether and which medications you might need. In some cases, such as contraceptive prescriptions, patients can request a preferred medication.

Pricing

If you have health insurance, Nurx will bill your provider directly for testing services and any prescription drugs you may receive from the company. Your costs will vary depending on the terms of your plan, such as your co-pay percentage. Nurx charges a $15 fee medical consultation fee in addition to the cost of your test kit. Uninsured patients can also pay out-of-pocket for any services Nurx renders.

Customer Experience

The Nurx website is well-designed and easily navigable. Testing options and other services are clearly described. The company provides information on medical providers on staff. Pricing is easy to understand and the company will submit claims to your health insurer if you wish. 

To request services, you will need to fill out a health survey and upload a photo of your ID. Nurx's questionnaire is a little lengthier than some sites', however this served to reinforce our confidence in the company.

Shipping is free on all orders. One drawback of Nurx's service that we noted is that patients usually receive notification of test results within a week of processing. We think that's a pretty long time to wait when you're worried about having contracted an STD or are already suffering symptoms. But overall, Nurx provides an excellent online experience. One other feature that distinguishes Nurx is that, unlike many similar online companies, Nurx doesn't try to increase your purchase cost by pushing supplements or non-prescription remedies.
