AXA travel insurance covers a wide variety of travel-related losses, including luggage damage and theft, medical issues, and trip interruption. Its adventure travel policy is especially robust and not only covers traditional adventure activities but also reimburses policyholders for sports equipment rentals and lost golf days. One of the unique features of AXA travel insurance is that it does not impose deductibles on its insureds. Further, the company's American underwriters are in very solid financial shape, which should assure policyholders that the 203-year-old firm will be able to make good on claims in any economic climate.

AXA Travel Insurance Plans & Coverage

Coverage - 4.5 / 5

AXA's website provides a helpful outline of the company's four travel insurance plans, which allow consumers to make side-by-side comparisons. As with all travel insurance policies, travelers should read carefully to clarify which reasons for trip cancellation are accepted and which are not. The company provides a competitive array of medical and baggage benefits for their insureds. It also provides a well-designed adventure travel package that offers higher coverages for baggage delay and reimbursement for lost days of diving, skiing, recreation, golf, and equipment rental, as well as a modest benefit for search and rescue expenses.

This insurance policy is not worth anything. I bought it for a trip. There is a situation with a medical emergency and ongoing care. I called all of the numbers on the information that was given to me for contacts. It was an endless cycle of recordings. After 2 hours, I finally found a number on the website where someone answered and tried to help. I was told that the information on the policy I had, which I bought through the Company I purchased my airline tickets from, was outside the system. So, there was no information on the AXA system: this is as if I don't have a policy. I was told that I needed to speak with that Company. I finally talked with that Company, who told me they... To purchase the `Cancel For Any Reason` can only be done if one is within 14 days of the initial trip deposit placed on the trip. Otherwise the 1 million medical evacuation is a good value if travelling distance is greater than a 2 hour trip from the US.

Horrible, horrible experience using this travel insurance company. I used the TravelInsurance.com marketplace to purchase coverage for a $10,000 trip to Greece in September. I used the marketplace options to narrow down the policies to all include the "Cancel for Any Reason Coverage" so that I would have extra coverage. Chose a platinum plan with AXA Assistance, thinking it had the cancel for any reason coverage that I had checked off in the marketplace options. It was only after filing a claim that the company told me this was an "optional add-on" and that I hadn't chosen the add-on. At no point was I ever given the option to add it on though, and my initial reading of the policy language... Read More
