VRBO is a travel search engine which is a registered trademark of HomeAway.com. It offers information on over 2 million house rentals worldwide with more than 25,000 pet-friendly properties to choose from. It also provides detailed listings on properties such as those with free baby and kid amenities.

Services and Features

VRBO makes searching for a vacation rental simple by letting you enter a destination and travel dates. It also has search filters which lets travellers narrow down results. Travellers can inquire on 3 or more properties which increases their chance of booking. It also has a “Book it Now” option to select a listing.

The company ensures that the money spent vacation is covered with its Cancellation and Damage Protection. This covers non-refundable refundable trip costs in case customers need to cancel their trip due to selected reasons. Typically, vacation rental payments become non-refundable 30 to 90 days in advance of the arrival date. With Cancellation Protection, consumers can insure their trip cost of up to $50,000 if they need to cancel and reimburse due to covered events such as flight cancellations, mandatory evacuation, job loss, injury, sickness, and more.

Damage Protection helps travellers be protected against expenses incurred due to accidentally damage a vacation rental property. This can reimburse travellers if their refundable damage deposit is withheld due to a covered loss. Coverage is offered starting from $59 up to $1,500 with no deductible.

VRBO Property #4849728ha. Owner classic bait-and-switch approved by VRBO. We made a reservation 18 months in advance, with reservation accepted/approved. Owner called and insisted he could make more money and told us to cancel, which we refused to do. Owner cancelled us. Phone complaint to VRBO (twice) and was told it happens all the time and there was nothing they could or would do about it. We asked for a supervisor to return our call, still waiting.

Vrbo obviously has a policy of not posting negative reviews. I booked a three day stay paying in advance $730. I arrived at the site and it was not as described. It was not in a good neighborhood. The building had a moldy smell, my wife has asthma and she had an immediate reaction and the place had a creepy feel. We called up the host who refused to return our funds. When I wrote a review detailing our experience Vrbo just kept on refusing to print if I would modify the review to match their conditions but they rfinally kicked it back saying the review was submitted too late. They r obviously more concerned with alienating a host then giving the guests honest feedback

VRBO rental did NOT note that the site was fully off grid. Arrived at midnight, half done unloading the car and the power goes out. 15 mins of stumbling around in the dark and a small closet w/ a battery bank was located. The owner was unreachable that night to discuss options. The owner later offered 1 day off rental but at check-out owner refused to honor discount. 3 days, intermittent power due to heavy cloud cover. Owner had a fridge, washer and dryer, TV and dvd player but nothing was usable due to no solar power. VRBO insurance denied claims of lost utilities even though the site was NOT listed as off grid. BATE AND SWITCH!!! Booked the Penthouse in NOLA through VRBO with this host for $2500 for 3-nights (neither of whom I will never use again). Did not GET the penthouse, got the 4th floor apartment which was dirty. I called the host and asked where is my outdoor pace, this apt. doesn't have one. "Oh that one doesn't have outdoor space, I'll have to take that photo down, sorry." Turned out the apt. we were in was not only NOT the PH, but they stuck us in the wrong apt. on purpose. Booked and paid in full a condo on VRBO months in advance. Received confirmation fom VRBO and the host immediately. Drove all day. Arrived in Atlanta and could not contact the host (no voice mail and no response from email or text). Called VRBO and spoke with 4 agents, all nice and tried to help. They could not reach the host. They didnt have any information on access to the property. The did put i a request for a refund and we did receive a full refund within a few days. VRBO should be more involved with the host and properties. They should know check-in information. They should immediately find suitable accommodations if the booked property is not available. VRBO removes bad reviews posted on their website for their rental properties thereby denying consumers needed information before renting through that company.

I will never use Vrbo again! I’ve booked with them before and never had a problem until now. I booked a property in London three different times. The first one was canceled because somebody hacked into the account of the owner. The second one I canceled and I did not receive my security deposit back. It’s been four months. The third property was just cancelled by VRBO one week before we are to arrive in London. Forget about their “book with confidence guarantee”. They said to get the $1650 back from my credit card! I have not gotten the last one back. Obviously they do not vet their hosts. I was happy with them when they were home away, but NEVER AGAIN. Use Airbnb instead.

I booked a vacation home with VRBO on 5.6.22. Our trip was scheduled 7/5-7/8/22. The host contacted me on Monday 7/4 via email, to let me know the home was no longer available. I was not given an option of another home for the 3 days, but would have to move home within 3 days. I did not accept, and asked for a refund. I was outraged that a host could cancel without valid reason, the house had "issues", and I was left to find new accommodations. I contacted VRBO immediately, and they did absolutely nothing. Hello, I am very dissatisfied with our experience using VRBO. My family booked a house big enough for 12 people in December 2021 for our July 2022 vacation. We found out 4 days before our trip that our house was double booked. The family that got to stay in the house we booked in December, didn't make their reservation until January 2022. However, we were told there wasn't anything they could do. In order to find a house 4 days before leaving for vacation, we had to book a house that was 2,000 more than the first house. Review the pictures well. Get someone in the area to go and really look at these properties, and remember Vrbo is NOT going to help you or stand by their word.
