Founded in 1960, Discover is a multi-faceted financial services company that offers credit card and payment services, online banking, and a wide range of lending solutions. Its full-featured identity theft program, available to Discover cardholders exclusively, provides family-wide protection. Discover is headquartered in Riverwoods, Illinois.

Best for Protecting Children's Identities

Discover's Identity Theft Protection services are available exclusively for Discover credit cardholders. The service is comparatively expensive at $15 per month, but it does offer a full suite of services including:

  • Monitors key changes in your credit report from all  three major credit bureaus
  • Alerts you when key changes are noted on your credit file
  • Alerts you when new bank accounts are opened in your name and when changes are made to existing accounts
  • Social Security Number alerts if your SSN is used to create a new identity at Experian
  • Dark web monitoring for your personal data and SSN
  • Credit balance, credit limit, and credit utilization alerts
  • Payday loan alerts
  • Address change alerts
  • Criminal court records monitoring and alerts if your name appears in court proceedings

A couple of these features are not the standard fare of other identity protection services. Discover also adds a unique benefit designed to protect your entire family. Child identity protection for up to 10 children is included with Discover's plan. Stolen child identities are often used to illegally secure government benefits, take out loans, open credit cards, and more. In fact, if you discover a child under the age of 18 has a credit report, that's a good indication that his or her identity has been stolen. Discover monitors credit bureaus and thousands of dark web sites and alerts you if your child's social security number is found on any of them.
