Sleep Number makes a wide range of beds to fit every customer's needs and budget. Its products are perfect for couples, as their design allows each partner to adjust their side of the bed to fit their desired firmness without disturbing the other person. Though the company's beds are on the more expensive end of the mattress spectrum, this feature may be enough to justify the cost. Additionally, Sleep Number offers a 25-year warranty that goes above and beyond those provided by competitors. On a different note, customer reviews for the company veer toward the negative, yet that may be due to its large size and broad client base.

Sleep Number Product Features

Product Specs - 3.5 / 5

Sleep Number mattresses are made of a combination of contouring foam layers and a layer of air pockets that can be inflated and deflated to reach the perfect level of firmness, which is expressed in the famous "sleep number." In beds that accommodate two people, the level of firmness of each side of the mattress can be adjusted independently, allowing each sleeper to make their side of the bed as firm or soft as they find comfortable. The company fails to list the exact materials used in the manufacturing of their mattresses.

Sleep Number offers six mattress models. The core line is composed of the c2 and c4 beds, which are the most affordable ones. The c2 model lacks a comfort layer, while the c4 features SleepIQ technology, which tracks sleep habits. The 360 Smart Bed line, on the other hand, has the p5, p6, i7, i8, and i10 models. The difference between these models is the thickness of the comfort layer. Additionally, the "i" models have a "temperature balancing sleep surface," that helps owners sleep cooler at night. All 360 Smart Beds have SleepIQ technology and Responsive Air technology, which respond to the sleeper's movements to adjust firmness automatically.

According to Sleep Number, its beds are not compatible with traditional box spring foundations, so their own base must be purchased. Customers can choose between the integrated base and a range of adjustable bases that control the position of the head and feet and may also feature foot warming and under-bed lighting.

Sleep Number Pricing

Pricing and Policies - 4.5 / 5

Sleep Number beds are on the more expensive side of the spectrum, though this can be attributed to the uniqueness of its product. The price below reflects the cost of the P6 Queen-sized mattress, which is the mid-range Sleep Number model. Likewise, the price of the adjustable bed is that of the FlexFit 2, also the mid-range model. Customers interested in purchasing a Sleep Number bed should note that a traditional box spring does not provide the right amount of support for a Sleep Number mattress. The company recommends purchasing its simple integrated base, which retails for $299, or a FlexFit adjustable base, which is non-returnable.

Service Features - 4.3 / 5

Sleep Number's 100-night sleep trial for its mattresses is fairly standard for the industry. However, its 25-year limited warranty for defects not associated with normal use is above the industry standard, applying not only to the mattress but also to the Firmness Control system. The SleepIQ module also includes a 2-year warranty. During the first two years, any repair or replacement needed is covered by Sleep Number at no cost to the customer. Thereafter, the repair or replacement cost is determined by a percentage of the current prices for the item in question.

Customers can try a Sleep Number mattress for 100 nights. If they are not satisfied with the product, they can contact the company's customer service to process a return. They will be refunded the purchase price of the mattress, less original delivery and return shipping costs. This home trial does not apply to the FlexFit adjustable beds frequently sold with the Sleep Number bed, as these are non-exchangeable and non-returnable.

Sleep Number Company Reputation

Company Reputation - 3.5 / 5

Sleep Number holds an A+ with the Better Business Bureau. It has a large number of negative customer reviews and complaints, though that is to be expected with a company of its size and age. These complaints seem to revolve around defects in the Sleep Number bed. Several customers also point out that adjustable bases are non-returnable and the 100-night trial only applies to the mattress itself, which suggests these customers may not have read the entire product description before their purchase.

if I could I would give this company O stars!! Avoid this company all together. Purchased a king I8 mattress with adjustable base on 11/24/23 with a delivery date of 12/09/23 between 1:30-4:30. Got called at 1:50 on the delivery date by Customer Service to tell me my order wouldn't be delivered today because they order wasn't at their delivery warehouse and would have to reschedule delivery on 12/20-11 days later! I asked customer service why they weren't aware that my order wasn't there first thing on the morning of 12/09 and all they could tell me was this was the info they received. So this big company doesn't communicate this internally that the order won't go out. I said that... Read More

Don't walk away, RUN AWAY!!! Do not trust them when they tell you that you do not need a remote for the adjustable bases. Although that may be true initially, just wait until you have issues with the adjustable base because it WILL HAPPEN! In order to trouble shoot the base you HAVE TO HAVE THE REMOTE! Oh and the fact that you have spent $11,000 for the bed does not matter! You still have to BUY the stupid remote! I literally spoke to the manufacturer of the adjustable base and the remotes are included for free with the bases. However, they try to ding you another $50 for the stupid remote that they received for FREE!!!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM! THEY... Read More

I purchased a queen size sleep number bed approximately 2 years ago, after sleeping on the bed for about 6 months I started falling off the bed. I feel off the bed to the floor sporadically on 4 occasions without injury. I thought it was due to the fact that I downsized from a king size regular bed to a queen size sleep number bed. I didn't make a fuss about it because I was not injured, I did mention it to family members, my husband and my doctor because I am in my seventy's and have Osteoporosis, she was alarmed until I explained that I was not hurt. On the fifth fall I did injure myself and that's when I realized that something was very wrong A couple days later, I feel again, and I... Read More

After 13 month my bed was losing air and I called the company and it will cost $149 for the workers to put in a new air chamber. I put the bed in storage. I'm not going to spend this extra money every so often.

Beware delivery is $249 and if you return the bed is is another $249!! I questioned the $249 delivery thinking that was steep but assuming that included returns. NO, BIG RIPOFF. $500 for delivery and pick-up, never telling me there would be another $249 pick-up charge. I would have brought it back to the store myself knowing this unmentioned fact. Not only did I not get a comfortable bed but got stiffed for $500. So disappointed and eing a widow,, on a fixed income this hurts bad. Shame o you sleep number. Jane O'Brien, BIRMINGHAM 280 STORE

The sales person told us that the bed was returnable within the 30 day trial period. We waited 6 weeks for the bed and then I called within this period and they tried every move possible to get me to not return the mattress. CAUTION!!! READ ALL FINE PRINT!!! Do not assume that when the sales person says the bed is returnable that it means the whole bed. The adjustable base is not returnable and they charged us $250 dollars to pick up the mattresses. The C4 split king XL model is too short for my 6 ft tall husband ( no problems in the store that he noticed) and the bed felt different than the store model I personally thought. On lower settings the mattress made crunching sounds. Overall, I... Read More

Poor customer service and return policy. They need to approve your return even if it is in 100 day window. Read the fine print. I was unable to return my mattress that I had for 30 days because of a stain from my dog. Then I was quoted $1300 for replacement cover and foam!

Incredible. Bought a split king Sleep Number 360 iLE in Aug 2021 with the FlexFit 2 base. Previously used natural latex and older Select Comfort models. It's not cheap and the more complex the bed is, the more opportunities there are for failure. However, so far it's been amazing, especially with their curved ComfortFit pillow. When considering how much time we spend sleeping and how important quality sleep is for our health, at $7,400 for everything, even if it all falls apart in 3 years, it will have cost us ~$3.4 per person per day to have a great night sleep. We did have an issue with some parts when they were initially delivered, and it took about 1.5 months to get on their... Read More

This is a complaint about customer service ——Bought a Sleep Number IQ adjustable bed in 2017 - while we love the bed and have had positive interactions with Sleep Number customer service within the last year for a pump problem we were having with a bed purchased over 7 years ago, yesterday and today trying to troubleshoot a ‘connectivity error’ we were told we would be called back yesterday when wait time was over 15 minutes- we were not called back. Today called customer service 4 times and transferred to other representatives during each call - we were disconnected each time with no call back from the person we were talking with despite them having 2 telephone numbers to contact us -... My wife purchased the bed to help me with my PTSD and sleep apnea caused by numerous deployment to Iraq/Kuwait. We finally after the last story canceled our ordered. Now we are going to have to look for another bed since the old one is gone due to be promised the delivery on October 26 which never happened and was rescheduled for November.
