How is GEICO rated?
Breakdown
Overall Rating: 0 / 5 (N/A)
GEICO is a household name in the insurance category and the company has elected to extend its brand into the pet insurance business. However, when you go to research or purchase a pet insurance policy at GEICO.com, you will be immediately directed to Embrace, the pet insurer GEICO partners with to deliver its product. Policy options, covered services, premiums, and so on are set by Embrace. The company also administers all claims and the electronic interfaces customers use to manage and communicate about their policies.
Embrace is a well-respected pet insurance provider that we have reviewed previously and positively. The company gets high marks from pet-owners, too. No matter how you get to Embrace, we feel confident recommending the company for your pet insurance needs. It has one of the most comprehensive plans we've come across.
Through Embrace, GEICO offers a wide range of policy options, including accident, illness, and wellness coverage, and numerous ways to customize your policy to make it fit your budget.
GEICO Coverage
Coverage - 0 / 5
GEICO and its partner Embrace offer coverage for pet accidents and illnesses in one plan. For pets over the age of 15, you can also choose an accident only plan. Pet owners can also elect to purchase an optional wellness care product in addition to insurance.
Where GEICO/Embrace really shines is in the breadth of coverage it offers in its accident/illness plan. In addition to covering standard items like diagnostic testing, surgery, and hospitalization, the plan also covers dental services, prosthetic and mobility devices, behavioral therapy—got a digger on your hands?—and alternative care. Embrace also covers the first line item on your vet bill—the exam charge—which many of its competitors do not.

Reimbursement & Deductibles
Reimbursement - 0 / 5
GEICO/Embrace allows you to choose any vet for your pet's care and will reimburse your claim based on your actual vet bill. You can choose the percentage of your bills that you are responsible for (your co-pay). If you choose a higher co-pay, your premiums will be lower.
Reimbursement Model | Actual Cost |
Minimum Percent Reimbursement | 70% |
Maximum Percent Reimbursement | 90% |
Deductibles - 0 / 5
GEICO offers customers a choice of deductibles. The higher the policy's deductible, the lower its associated premium. Pet owners can select either a $100, $250, $500, $750, or $1000 deductible when they work with GEICO. Customers should consider how much they can afford to pay out of pocket in one fell swoop before selecting a deductible. Sometimes, paying a slightly higher premium each month is a good way to budget for pet health care and hedge against a vet bill you can't afford to pay when it comes due.
Deductible Type | Annual |
Minimum Deductible Offered | $100 |
Maximum Deductible Offered | $1,000 |
