GeoBlue has been offering travel insurance since 1997, and is a licensee of Blue Cross Blue Shield.

The company offers different policy options based on the length of the trip and the number of benefits you might need, which can help you save money.

What we particularly like about GeoBlue’s services, is the ease with which customers can get a quote and apply online.

Another key feature of GeoBlue’s plans is that members can submit paperless claims and track their progress online.

GeoBlue rounds out their travel insurance offering with 24/7 worldwide assistance, and a handy application that helps travelers before, during, and after their trip.

GeoBlue Financial Strength

Financial Strength - 3.5 / 5

GeoBlue is a licensee of Blue Cross Blue Shield, an organization that collectively insures 100 million members.

The Blue Brand is still the largest healthcare brand, with providers in more than 180 countries outside the U.S. and with 90% of hospitals and 80% of physicians participating in the United States.

So customers can be confident their claims will be honored and services can be provided in most countries. As the larger Blue Cross Blue Shield conglomerate is comprised of over 30 insurance companies, it is difficult to judge the financial strength rating as a whole.

However, AM Best has awarded the majority of its companies with an A+ rating.

The organization as a whole has been operating for close to 90 years, which is significantly longer than many of the other travel insurance providers we rate.

I have had the GeoBlue Trekker Choice plan for many years and thought that I was covered until I was recently sick on a cruise ship with a sinus infection, headaches and body aches. Tested negative for Covid and culture result was bacterial. I was given fluids, antibiotics, pain reliever, and other intravenous medications commonly used in and performed by hospitals. I received treatment in the ship’s hospital visiting the hospital twice per day over the course of 3 days. The total bill was $6,754.83 and GeoBlue paid $3,324.25. GeoBlue would not pay for any medications taken intravenously or even a single shot citing this exclusion to the policy: #45: All infusion therapy,... Read More

I spent so many hours and week searching for international health insurance, for regular medical care and emergency care, and although it is not the cheapest, you'll eventually figure out it's because other companies only offer emergency coverage or there's so many other restrictions that GeoBlue stood out. I needed both coverages in order to get a Taiwan visa. To be honest, I haven't traveled yet and haven't used the health plan that I purchased so I can't give a fair review about what happens once you need assistance to get services paid out. I did need to show proof of health insurance prior to getting the visa so I went on their website and purchased a plan and picked a random... Read More

Horrible experience with this company!! Our baby got sick while abroad and is taking them 6 months to process the claims. We just recently got a letter saying they actually won't cover most of what we spent (basic doctor's appointment and a few lab tests). At this point we just want our money back. GeoBlue Travel Insurance never again!!

I have three items (annual ob/gyn, mammogram, contraception) pending, after going through numerous reviews and now being escalated to "formal appeal" because GeoBlue is not paying for preventative services as promised (with specific wording to cover annual ob/gyn, mammogram, contraception) with wording such as "insurer waives deductible" and covered "100%, no deductible" because they are insisting that I must meet my deductible before they'll cover it. If you are considering purchasing a GeoBlue policy, please pay attention to the reviews on this page, making distinct note that the stars given at the top of the page do NOT reflect the sentiments expressed in the reviews. Furthermore,... Read More

They deserve minus stars. My wife and I tried to use their "travel insurance" for legit medical services abroad, in a cheap country, so that the refund would be less than the cost of insurance we actually paid, and they refuse to pay on the excuse that the itemization for services provided is not standardized. To my inquiries online and by phone they keep resending the same generic email requesting the same things that I already sent them with our original submission in July! No one reads those emails, nor does anybody care. They are into the business of exhausting the client until they give up. Moreover, an insurance that promises to work anywhere around the globe should realize that... Read More

I purchased the travel insurance/Trekker plan. I had a dental accident while eating musli, a broken tooth from chewing on a pit. My plan says that dental injuries are eligible for reimbursment. After submitting my claim, I had to wait over a month, with no emails from Geoblue and no updates on my online profile. I called twice, last call 6 weeks after submitting my claim. I was told that actually dental injuries due to chewing or biting are not covered??? My plan doesn't include this detail. Disappointing!!! Their customer rep told me 10 times "I apologize for this" during my call ... that was all. As usual, a lot of promises to attract customers, then not delivering. Will look elsewhere... Read More

I have the Xplorer plan and, like the other reviewers have mentioned, I find their customer service to be very hit or miss. They deny claims without any reasons and I don't think the customer service agents have the training to understand different types of doctors/credentials abroad. Since this insurance is "supposed" to work in other countries, there is clearly a service gap. I have had agents hang up on me and refuse to let me speak to supervisors or managers. Great idea...badly executed.

LOL. If you travel and are insured through GeoBlue student health insurance - good luck. You better don't ever get sick or go to the emergency room. They refuse to pay or reimburse you for anything and provide absolutely no explanation as to why. They are scammers who can't even read medical bills correctly and think that stamping "ineligible" across every single claim they get is enough. My family pays $700 a semester to this greedy bunch so that they can do their damn job and still they don't. Would give negative stars if I could. AWFUL.

I would not even give them a star. Their customer service does not help at all. They make mistakes with sending the checks to the wrong addresses and void the check without noticing the customer. Because of their fault, I paid chargeback fee to the bank and they do not do anything about that including Supervisor "Patrick". He did not care about my claim.
