Founded in 2002, Veterans United is a full-service lender that specializes in VA loans for qualifying veterans, military members and their spouses.

Based in Columbia, Missouri, the organization carries an unparalleled reputation for customer satisfaction – Veterans United has a 97% customer recommendation rating.

Like all VA loans, mortgages offered through Veterans United are insured by the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Because of this, the company is able to offer loans with significantly more favorable conditions to service members and veterans than usually available to the civilian population.

These conditions include more flexible qualification guidelines, lower rates, lower monthly payments, no down payments, and no private mortgage insurance.

Veterans United has closed over 700,000 home loans for military service members and their families, but what really sets the company apart is their involvement in the military community.

The company is advised by a board of former senior military personnel representing every service branch whose mission is to educate veterans as to the benefits of VA loan programs and home ownership in general.

Also, Veterans United offers a totally free and no-obligation credit-building program, where veterans and military families have access to trained and dedicated consultants who offer advice and strategies for improving credit.

What’s more, Veterans United has unmatched VA loan expertise and is the country’s No. 1 lender for VA purchase loans.

Services and Features

For borrowers seeking VA loans, Veterans United offers VA Purchase Loans, VA Cash-Out Refinance Loans, and VA Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loans – often called a Streamline Refinance.

To get the ball rolling, veterans and service members can avail themselves of a host of online calculators and educational tools to assess their own financial situation, learn the VA loan process, and get help with finding the right home given all this information.

Eligibility

To determine eligibility, prospective borrowers may have to initially provide the following information:

  • Buy or Refinance

  • Military service history

  • State

  • Value of home desired

  • Planned Date of Purchase

  • Credit Score

  • Zip Code

  • Email address

  • Current Address

Qualification

Because VA loans are insured by the federal government, credit score typically isn’t as much of a limiting factor as it is with conventional loans, however, it still will play a part.

If your credit is less than stellar it would be a good idea to avail yourself of Veterans United’s credit building service. As an active or former service member, the company connects you with credit and VA loan experts free of charge to help get you on track to securing a home.

All prospective borrowers under the VA loan program must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Veterans Administration. Veterans United may be able to get this document for you.

In order to get a COE, generally speaking, you must:

  • Have 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime, or

  • Have 181 days of service during peacetime, or

  • Six years in the Reserves or National Guard, or

  • Be the spouse of a service member who has died in the line of duty or as a result of an injury sustained in the line of duty

VA Loans with Veterans United

Veterans United is not just a financial organization providing VA loans to service members, they are a full service resource of advice and help for active and former military personnel.

The company offers a trove of online guidance and education. So it’s not just a matter of do you qualify or not. Veterans United will work with you from the very beginning of the process and guide you along the path of finding the right home, getting your credit in shape, and selecting the best possible VA loan for your situation. A top choice for all the different types of VA loans.

Veterans United worked very hard for us and made the whole process a lot easier than what was expected. They connected us with a realtor who did a great job in finding us a home that is perfect for us. Our agents were very transparent and did not keep anything from us. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase a home.

My experience working with Steve and Joyce have been very professional. I also had the opportunity to get to know each of them in a personal level sharing a few family stories. They both worked very to ensure that I get the home I love and made the process as painless as they possibly can. I would definitely recommend Steve and Joyce to a friend for their dedication, candor and can do attitudes.

I have ptsd from my enlistment with the Air Force. When I am stressed, I shut down. The team at Veterans United made this refi very easy for me. I was never pressured or harrassed like other lenders in the past.

Hi Pam, thanks for sharing this--it can't be easy living with PTSD, sometimes, I'm sure. I am glad to hear that your loan team was sensitive about this, and helped make your refinance as stress- and pressure-free as possible. Thanks again for sharing your experience, and congrats for the successful refi!

Having moved a lot during the past several decades, I have gone through many mortgage loan processes. Needless to say, I wasn't looking forward to enduring the riggers of dealing with folks who have to get things done to the requirements of a large government organization. To my complete surprise, this was by far the clearest and most pleasant mortgage process that I have experienced. No, this is never a "fun" exercise, but the staff I dealt with at V.U. were so patient, efficient, and even personally pleasant, that I truly did enjoy the experience. I just wish they sold cars. They could even make buying a car endurable. Dale S. Green Valley, AZ

I have to admit I laughed out loud when I read your car-buying comment--that's some of the BEST praise we have ever received for sure. It makes my day to know that your team could offer pleasant surprises in terms of what the VA loan process can look like, and that everything went so smoothly. Congratulations on your new home, and thanks so much for the wonderful review!

This company is HORRIBLE! They have incompetent loan officers and are very disorganized. They have completely ruined what should be one of the most enjoyable moments in our adult lives - becoming homeowners! If I could give them 0 stars - I would!

Hi Kimberly, You are so right in that this is supposed to be a positive adventure and I am so sorry to hear that your experience has not lived up to that feeling. We always strive to deliver great service while helping our veterans and service members use their loan benefit. If we fail in that goal, I want to know everything about what happened so that we can review for potential training opportunities or corrective action. I know you have been working with my teammate Morgan, but my team is always available to assist you with more information. You may always feel free to reach out to any of us directly at 1-800-212-5200 or by email at ClientAdvocate@veteransunited,com for assistance. -Claire S., Client Advocate

This was my first time using Veterans United and the VA Home Loan process. My loan team was outstanding! They provided me with the information and guidance that was needed during the process. The rates that are available for home loans are much lower than can be obtained by other financial institutions which in the long run saves you money. Jeremy and Taylor are very knowledgeable and made the process very easy and smooth. They were both helpful and informative. I like and or demand to have communication when I am completing a transaction like this, my loan team was Always there to answer any questions that I had, no matter how little. They both took the time to completely answer all of... Read More

Wow Paul, this is such an awesome review! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and the ALL STAR shout out! We have learned a thing or two in our 15+ years of VA loan experience and one of the most important lessons was how crucial those open lines of communication are regardless of this being your 1st or 10th home loan. Making sure that the nuts and bolts of the loan process are easy as well is also so important. Providing you with online access to your file information was something we found to truly enhance the loan process for so many of our military borrowers who may not have the same ease of access that non military borrowers do. We couldn't be happier for you and your new journey and we will always be here for you wherever your path takes you!! Enjoy the ride!! CONGRATS!!! Claire S., Client Advocate

As a surviving spouse of a VietNam vet, the ability to use the VA Home Loan benefit was incremental in my ability to purchase a home. Veterans United provided compassion, understanding and unequivocal knowledge of the VA benefits/requirements that are needed to have a smooth process. Purchasing a home is stressful enough, much less doing this as a widow. Thanks to Veterans United, I became a home owner on July 23, 2019! Thank you!

You're right: Compassion, knowledge, and understanding are all integral to making the loan process a smooth one! It's so wonderful to know that that was your experience, Cindy. I know there can be a lot of moving pieces in the home buying process, and I can't even imagine what it was like for you to navigate that without your partner. Thanks so much for trusting us with this important process, and congratulations on your new home.
