Founded in 2002, Veterans United is a full-service lender that specializes in VA loans for qualifying veterans, military members and their spouses.

Based in Columbia, Missouri, the organization carries an unparalleled reputation for customer satisfaction – Veterans United has a 97% customer recommendation rating.

Like all VA loans, mortgages offered through Veterans United are insured by the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Because of this, the company is able to offer loans with significantly more favorable conditions to service members and veterans than usually available to the civilian population.

These conditions include more flexible qualification guidelines, lower rates, lower monthly payments, no down payments, and no private mortgage insurance.

Veterans United has closed over 700,000 home loans for military service members and their families, but what really sets the company apart is their involvement in the military community.

The company is advised by a board of former senior military personnel representing every service branch whose mission is to educate veterans as to the benefits of VA loan programs and home ownership in general.

Also, Veterans United offers a totally free and no-obligation credit-building program, where veterans and military families have access to trained and dedicated consultants who offer advice and strategies for improving credit.

What’s more, Veterans United has unmatched VA loan expertise and is the country’s No. 1 lender for VA purchase loans.

Services and Features

For borrowers seeking VA loans, Veterans United offers VA Purchase Loans, VA Cash-Out Refinance Loans, and VA Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loans – often called a Streamline Refinance.

To get the ball rolling, veterans and service members can avail themselves of a host of online calculators and educational tools to assess their own financial situation, learn the VA loan process, and get help with finding the right home given all this information.

Eligibility

To determine eligibility, prospective borrowers may have to initially provide the following information:

  • Buy or Refinance

  • Military service history

  • State

  • Value of home desired

  • Planned Date of Purchase

  • Credit Score

  • Zip Code

  • Email address

  • Current Address

  • Phone Number

Qualification

Because VA loans are insured by the federal government, credit score typically isn’t as much of a limiting factor as it is with conventional loans, however, it still will play a part.

If your credit is less than stellar it would be a good idea to avail yourself of Veterans United’s credit building service. As an active or former service member, the company connects you with credit and VA loan experts free of charge to help get you on track to securing a home.

All prospective borrowers under the VA loan program must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Veterans Administration. Veterans United may be able to get this document for you.

In order to get a COE, generally speaking, you must:

  • Have 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime, or

  • Have 181 days of service during peacetime, or

  • Six years in the Reserves or National Guard, or

  • Be the spouse of a service member who has died in the line of duty or as a result of an injury sustained in the line of duty

VA Loans with Veterans United

Veterans United is not just a financial organization providing VA loans to service members, they are a full service resource of advice and help for active and former military personnel.

The company offers a trove of online guidance and education. So it’s not just a matter of do you qualify or not. Veterans United will work with you from the very beginning of the process and guide you along the path of finding the right home, getting your credit in shape, and selecting the best possible VA loan for your situation. A top choice for all the different types of VA loans.

Very poor experience with this company. Everything started well and after I uploaded documents to their website I got a quick preapproval letter. However, multiple emails and voicemails to my assigned rep went unanswered over next two weeks. I never did speak with my rep but when I called and spoke with someone else they could not help to change my loan and in fact just cancelled everything without a follow up call. Glad I had a back up lender to move forward. Would not recommend this lender and will not ever use them in the future.

My situation was a little out of the ordinary. I lived in SC and I nedded to buy a home in TX. But, I needed to buy my home, before I left the state of SC. I was very lucky to have beem teamed with Jenna Pahde, as my loan officer and Peter Holman as my agent, in TX. They performed superbly, and I could not have found a better team to work with! KUDOS to Jenna and Peter!

Ginny Young and Veterans United was able to get me the cash out that Freedom Mortgage could not AND with substantial lower closing cost and lower rate. I was approved and closing with Freedom Mortgage who held my loan for 4 years, but not happy with the terms and amount of cash out. All I had left to do was scheduled closing with the Title Company. I called Ginny and started over after 3 minutes of conversation about what I NEEDED from my mortgage refinance and she made EVERY concern I had go away and every NEED a reality, going above and beyond. Thank you Ginny. Through Ginny Young and her asst. Sarah Dixon's hard work I recieved an additional $32000 allowing me to purchase a new... Read More

Hi Jerry, I am thrilled that Ginny and Sarah met you right where you were at and were able to pick up the ball and run with it!! As for a transfer, we aren't set up to keep all loans for the long term, but we only work with servicers that we have a good working relationship with, which allows us to work together in case of any concerns regarding your loan. A loan servicing transfer in no way is a reflection on your loan or how much we value you as a customer of Veterans United Home Loans. We also understand there can be questions surrounding a loan transfer to a new company, and we want to emphasize that Veterans United staff are still here to support you with assistance if needed. If you have any concerns, please let us know! Our customer service supervisors can answer questions and concerns regarding a loan servicing transfer at 1-800-212-5200 or ClientAdvocate@veteransunited.com. -Claire S., Client Advocate

Veteran's United was incredibly easy to work with. Everything was streamlined and simple, from the beginning application all the way through closing. The loan specialists and recommended real estate agent were completely professional and never failed to keep me informed of what was going on and what I needed to do. The team I had made the entire process run very smoothly and kept everything on schedule.

Stephanie Buckridge is the worst lending officer there is. We submitted over 300 pages of proof to her regarding a priors business loss and she refused to even review the evidence and documentation. She provided an excuse that the federal government does not allow for them to lend to individuals with business loss, because it gives the appearance of using personal money. Now this is the first major loss we have suffered from in 10 years, which was due to identity theft. We are the victims yet Stephanie Buckridge penalized us even more without question, in fact she discriminated against us! We have spoken with the individual at the IRS who assisted us and she indicates that Stephanie... Read More

Jeremy Eisner was simply Awesome! I was surprised at the timely responses and the fact that I always knew what was going on. He seemed to be just as excited about my purchase as I was. There is not one negative thing that I can say about my entire experience with Veterans United, Jeremy Eisner and Jake Hamilton, My Team! I know them by name because they were so hands on and personal. A wonderful experience totally. From contract to close, less than 45 days, absolutely about their business.

Veterans United put together the most awesome team of truly dedicated, concerned people, putting them in a league of their own. They made me feel like I had an entire fellowship of dedicated team mates working towards getting me into my new house. I would gladly invite them all over and prepare a feast for them to show my appreciation. They left me feeling an indebtedness for their personal commitment to my getting a new home. god bless each and everyone for their work on my behalf. May they be prosperous in all their endeavors.
