Founded in 2015, Firstleaf is a wine club that uses technology to match consumers to wines that fit their unique tasting profile. With over 150,000 customers, Firstleaf uses consumer feedback to customize its boxes for every individual’s palate. The company’s wineries are located in Napa and Sonoma County, California.

Firstleaf provides members with direct-to-consumer wine services, delivering wines sourced from vineyards all over the world. Orders are delivered within 2-5 days to a location of your choice, with a frequency that can vary between one, two or three months, depending on the customer's answers during the introductory quiz. Nonetheless, delivery frequency can be adjusted at any time in the account settings.

Membership Programs

After completing a nine-question quiz about their wine preferences, customers can sign up for a customizable subscription. Customers can choose the type of wines they want to receive (reds, whites, or a mix of both),  as well as indicate whether they enjoy the occasional sparkling and rosé.

If you decide to join the club, the initial shipment of six wines is $39.95. Subsequent orders cost $90 (around $15 per bottle).

All Firstleaf club shipments contain six bottles that reflect each individual's taste, as determined by their wine profile and the ratings they submit online. By using an algorithm that analyzes 13 billion data points, Firstleaf states that each shipment gets better as you rate more wines.

Customers can re-order their favorite wines or try new ones. Firstleaf gives customers the opportunity to preview each shipment, allowing you to swap out a wine you’re not interested in for something you'd enjoy more.

Membership can be canceled anytime and does not require a signup fee. However, if you are not ready to commit to a membership, you can shop at Firstleaf's online store, where you'll find various gift packs for purchase without the need to sign up.

Shipping

Firstleaf ships to 46 states and Washington, D.C. (No deliveries to Alabama, Mississippi, Rhode Island, or Utah). Orders are usually shipped about 24 hours after being placed, with delivery via FedEx or UPS ground shipping. Speed of delivery varies by location, but typically takes about two to five business days.

Customer Service

Firstleaf offers its customers a 100% satisfaction guarantee: if, for any reason, you're not satisfied with a bottle you receive, you will get a credit for it (minus shipping) to use for another bottle in the future.

Firstleaf’s Member Experience team is available to help customers via phone or chat seven days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. Customers can also write them an email to resolve specific issues.

Customers can also take advantage of a membership perk by booking an appointment with a certified wine concierge that helps in selecting the best wines suited to your palate.

Firstleaf is an accredited business with the BBB and has an A+ rating, as well as a 4.7 out of 5 with Trustpilot.

Firstleaf Wine Club Review

With a wide variety of award-winning wines from all over the world, Firstleaf is a solid contender in the wine delivery industry. What makes it stand out from the rest, though, is the degree of customizability club membership provides. As a Firstleaf member, you have a say in what kind of wines you receive and can change the contents of each shipment as you see fit.

Furthermore, members can receive deliveries whenever it is most convenient for them. Firstleaf encourages customer feedback and caters to a wide range of customer tastes and subscription preferences.

Horrible customer service. They don't even reply to emails. They have the wrong ship date for me and i can't even get someone on the phone or via email to make the correction. It's been days.... now it's likely to just ship out to the wrong address. CRAZY! i'm quitting this wine club

This company is not a 'scam' but they are indeed quite busy right now! Lots of marketing push-outs, so perhaps a bit oversold - but I'm on my third order now and very happy with the shipping, customer service, and quality of the wines. These aren't high-end wines - they are, after all being sold for $14-15/bottle. But superior to grocery store wine shopping/selection, with curated collections, excellent tasting notes, and interesting international wines not found elsewhere. Most of what we've received we'd buy again - some have been excellent surprises, some just good. But a great way to sample a variety of wines in the comfort of home.

This is a scam. I placed my order based on the information that the order would ship in 3 days. 4 days went by with no further communication - neither a receipt nor a shipping notice - but my credit card was charged. After 5 days, I sent a contact message through their website. No response. After 6 days, I emailed. After 1 week, I called only to be routed to a dead-end outgoing message with no options to leave a message or any other information. I had to cancel my bank card in order to avoid future charges. I will be contesting the original charges through my credit card. This is fraud.

Ultimately disappointed. Received my first order and enjoyed a few of the wines. Wasn't ready for the second shipment so I went online and bumped the next order out 3 months with plenty of time to spare. However they sent the second shipment anyway so I canceled my membership. They then sent a duplicate order which I refused. Then when I looked at the wines that I did receive they were not the ones they said were shipped. I have called several times and no one answered so I left two messages and have never heard back. The wines were good but this company was very disappointing in their service. Called my credit card to make sure any future charges were refused.

Hi Susan, Looking at your user history I see you did not move your club shipment out until after the order had processed. You did not have plenty of time to spare unfortunately, it was only 2 days before your ship date, at which point the order had already gone through. We are not accepting calls at this time but I do see we emailed you, but never heard back. If you ever sign up in the future please keep in mind, orders are put through 2 days before shipping.

terrible and dishonest company. I signed up for a discounted first order ar $25 but they ALSO charged me full price ($100) for the next order the exact same day. I noticed when I got an email a week later saying that both orders shipped. I reached out to the company and they refused to give me a full refund. Said they would stop the shipment but charge me a $20 "restocking fee" and claimed I made 2 orders when I absolutely did not. They are dishonest and use their discounted first order to get your card info and charge you for things you do not order. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY - when something seems too good to be true, it probably is....

signed up by accident and it was very difficult to finally cancel my first order.

Hi Him, Apologies for the confusion! It's listed in our terms and conditions that the first order cannot be canceled. If your order was canceled we did this as a courtesy, these are difficult times and we are allowing the cancellation of the first order in some cases.

My comment has nothing to do with the wine. I have never really been a wine drinker, but Firstleaf's introductory offer was a no-risk offer that I tried. I thought maybe I don't like wine because I have never had any good wine. Well, it turns out that I just don't like wine. The introductory offer promised a 100% refund if not satisfied. When I asked for the refund I was told I could only get a credit. A credit doesn't do me any good if I don't like wine. I had to resolve the dispute with my credit card company. I won't judge Firstleaf as a wine company, but if you are going to do business with them you will need to understand that to them the printed word "refund" only means... Read More

I was content with the Club. Some wines were pretty good. This weekend I experienced HORRIBLE customer service. I received a text fro FedEx that my wine has been signed for while I was at work. Thinking my wife signed, I didn’t realize until 10:30 pm that FedEx left of my porch at noon. Forget that not getting an adult signature is illegal, it was 4 degrees on Friday in St Louis. I thought I saw some slush is at least one and really couldn’t tell. I contacted club and they told me the wine would be fine and would not pick up or refund. They should have made a claim against FedEx and instead the lost a three year dual member household.

Hi there, we are so sorry to hear that you have had this experience with us. I've looked up your account and I can see you have been refunded in full for this order! We have also filed a claim with FedEx because their drivers definitely should not be leaving packages without signatures. We do our best to coordinate with FedEx but, as much as we'd like to, we can't fully control their operations. There is always the option to switch your account to UPS, so you wouldn't have to deal with FedEx for future shipments. You can reach out to service@firstleaf.club for assistance with this!

It took forever to get my first delivery. Several mistakes were made. I initiated a conversation to cancel my service but I was promised 2 extra bottles for my next delivery and free shipping for the life of the subscription. I also was told FedEx would no longer be delivering as we have had continual problems with them delivering the package. The second package came today and nothing that was promised came true. Normal amount of wine and shipping was still charged. Very unfortunate because the quality of the wine is actually good. Cancelling due to poor service and especially with not following through on the commitment to make things right.

From what I can tell, the whole concept is a bit of a scam in that all of the wines are made at the FirstLeaf winery in Healdsberg, California. If you Google any of the wines, there is no indication of a winery other than FirstLeaf, even if they claim it is from another country. I’d be interested to know exactly how this works. Are these small wineries that have agree to not bottle or market their wine by signing a contract with FirstLeaf to perform that function for them? In other words, is FirstLeaf sourcing all of their grapes from elsewhere, then bottling them for shipment via their wine club? Where does the fermentation process occur? Have you noticed that none of the wines have a... Read More
