Individual Health Quotes Health Insurance Review
Individual Health Quotes is a landing page for GoHealth's health insurance marketplace. You enter some basic personal information on Individual Health Quotes' website and then it redirects you to GoHealth where you can view and compare the available health insurance policies in your area. Here's what you need to know.
Plans offered
Individual Health Quotes can help you find individual and family health insurance policies, as well as dental insurance plans and short-term health insurance plans if you missed the healthcare open enrollment period for the year. There's also accident and fixed benefit coverage. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage, or Medigap policies to consumers 65 and older, so you'll have to search elsewhere if you're interested in one of these policies. It doesn't offer health insurance policies to small businesses either. But if you're an individual or head of household under 65, you should be able to find something that suits you with Individual Health Quotes and GoHealth.
Quote process
Enter your zip code into the form on Individual Health Quotes' home page. Then, it'll take you to a form where you fill out some personal information. This form is a little more detailed than the ones you find with some other health insurance marketplaces. In addition to asking for your birthdate, gender and smoking habits, it also asks about your height and weight and whether you have any major medical conditions. Once you've answered all the questions, Individual Health Quotes redirects you to GoHealth's quote tool. Fortunately, all the information you entered on the previous form transfers over so you don't have to enter it all again.
Once you're taken to the list of available plans, you can browse through them, or filter them by carrier, premium, deductible and more to quickly find the plans that suit your needs. The main page lists each plan's doctor network, deductible, premium, copay, and max out-of-pocket costs. But if you want to compare policies in greater depth, you can compare up to four plans side by side using the compare tool.
Application
Once you've selected a plan, you must create an account with GoHealth if you haven't already. Then, it takes you to the government site, HealthCare.gov, to determine if you qualify for any cost savings. If you don't already have a HealthCare.gov account, you'll have to make one of those too and fill out the form. The whole process can take up to a half hour. Then, once that's done, you return to GoHealth to complete your application.
This can be time-consuming, but you may be able to save yourself a little time by creating a HealthCare.gov account before you get a quote from GoHealth or Individual Health Quotes. However, you should still block off 30 to 60 minutes for comparison shopping and filling out applications.
Health insurance resources
Unlike some other health insurance marketplaces, Individual Health Quotes doesn't offer any resources to help you learn about health insurance if you're unfamiliar with policy terms or the laws in your state. GoHealth has a few FAQs in its application form, but that's about it. You can research this information yourself, of course, so it's not a huge omission, but it would be nice to see Individual Health Quotes and GoHealth add some educational resources for those who'd like to learn a little more about what they're buying.
Bottom line
Individual Health Quotes is a useful tool for finding an individual or family health insurance plan that fits your needs and budget. But since you have to jump around between three different websites, applying for that policy will take time. You can speed things up a little by creating a HealthCare.gov account ahead of time and keeping all your important personal information, like your Social Security Number, close at hand so you don't have to go search for them when filling out your application.
