Overall Rating: 3.8 / 5 (Very good)

With many custom hearing aids priced in the thousands of dollars, MDHearingAid offers an affordable option for consumers on a tight budget. While the company's devices don't offer as many high-tech features as conventional prescription hearing aids do or use a custom ear mold fitting, they offer many basic features and a few bells and whistles for far less than you might expect.

The company offers three hearing aid models to choose from. Each costs less than $800 per pair. MDHearingAid also recently introduced a TV amplifier product that can assist customers who aren't ready to step up to true hearing aids, but rather, just need a little help when enjoying TV with friends and family. The company employs a round-the-clock support team to make using their devices easier and a dedicated Insurance Team that helps customers select products that are covered by their plan and even files insurance claims on their behalf. Recently, MDHearing formed a partnership with Medline to make it easier for customers to get coverage for their hearing aids under their supplemental over-the-counter insurance.

MDHearingAid Product Offerings

Hearing Aid Style - 4 / 5

MDHearingAid sells its products direct to consumers and does not custom-build or custom-fit them to people's ears. The difference between this business model and a traditional model where a hearing professional is involved is somewhat like the difference between getting pair of prescription glasses and buying a pair of reading glasses at a drugstore. Just as non-prescription glasses are significantly cheaper than prescription models, so MDHearingAid devices are much less expensive than brands prescribed by hearing professionals. The hearing aids sold by MDHearingAid use the same digital technology that is used in nearly all other contemporary designs. The company offers but behind-the-ear and in-the canal models and they are registered with the FDA as Class I medical devices.

Reputation - 4.5 / 5

MDHearingAid has been in business for more than ten years and in that time has not been the subject of any reported consumer lawsuits, regulatory actions, or recalls. However, the BBB has published an alert about the company due to recognizing a pattern of complaints, including defective product shipments, trouble returning their devices after the 45-day trial period, and difficulty reaching the company's customer service department. The company holds a 3.5 out of 5-star rating on Trustpilot, but that's an average based on just six reviews.

I tried a pair of MD Hearing Volt (h) for 7 months and do not recommend them. The right ear unit stopped working after about 4 months of use and never worked again even when showing fully charged. The left ear unit still works about 90% of the time but just goes off for no reason sometimes for 15 seconds and sometimes 10 minutes. Calling support after the 45 day refund period they tell you it is only because you have not bought a $35 new set of tubing & tips every 90 days because wax & oils from your body clog them and the hearing aid. I keep my tubing and tips absolutely clean every day....Hmmm...why would the unit not even turn on???? Anyway if you get an RMA number from them it... Read More

Your Web page data is totally inadequate for helping me choose the Volt model; I need to know the gain, and bands of frequencies over which I could adjust the gain to match my significant hearing loss. I don't even see mention of high frequency and low frequency limits for these devices!!!

Do not buy I have the Volt Max there best they say. They do not hold a charge, also all you hear is the back round sounds. If you want to hear in a noisy enviroment you can not hear people taking. Save your Money don't buy.

My inside the ear units arrived defective right out of the box and I called immediately. No answer, put in call que but unable to take the return call later. Tried 3 more days (not weekend) 7 days later, 5 calls & 5 emails with NO RESPONSE. Now I'm told that even defective items I must pay return shipping if not replacing. Why would I order another poor quality product???? How is this fair??? Stay with brick and mortar unless you want to be paying for broken devices.

I purchased a pair of volt max for $799.00. The first one went bad after about 3 weeks, it was replaced. After ten months one quit working, a week later the other has also gone bad. When I turn it on it goes straight to full volume and all it does is screech. for $799.00 I think they should have lasted longer.

I've had my Hearing aids for three years. They work great but best of all is the service and support company provides. There is always someone to answer questions and provide help when necessary . I am well pleased with MD Hearing Aid.

I am unable to wear this hearing aid because all 3 channels amplify every sound and increase background noise while making conversation more garbled.

First of all , like many providers, they don't specify whether the cost is for one or two aids. And they get you on the recharging item, as much as $799. for a recharging item!!. ..

I purchased the hearing aids with tubing and comfort tips for my father who has worn this style for years. When taking one of the units off the comfort tip detached from the tubing and lodged in the opening. Trying to get the tip out ended up lodging it further down the ear canal and he ended up in the emergency room to have it extracted. When calling into the service line to make them aware of the defective tip and trauma it caused, the person indicated it was not put together properly and was not a defective part, effectively washing their hands of the situation. No responsibility or consideration the part could be defective was acknowledged. She indicated anyone in the company... Read More
