Buyer beware. The system is delivered before you sign a contract and yes indeed, it is a three year contract with the only out being death (at home alone) or moving to a nursing home. Make sure someone other than the person needing the system is available during the install. Our installer did not explain the system to our 86 year old mother, did not tell her where he placed the bathroom monitor, or how to use the system. The bathroom monitor was laying on the floor the next morning, not stuck to the vanity. The company's customer service is virtually non-existent. Do your research before deciding on a Life Alert system. There are much better, more reasonable options available to... Read More
Once my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, we didn't know what to expect so we immediately called Life Alert. They helped us pick and choose which services she may need and answered all our questions. The rep was very kind, patient and informative. We are very happy we chose Life Alert.
I called this company as a Social Worker for a hospital, trying to get a service for a patient. The sales representative wouldn't even explain the services to me or options. The sales rep only said to have the patient call when ready to order.
There is no way to get detailed price comparisons online, and the brochure is non-specific, as well. When my mom called for information, "Joel" talked in circles. He tried to twist her words as having already committed when she had only indicated a preference for one type of plan. When she indicated she wanted to discuss the plans with her family, he magically dropped the price "just for you" by $100. She gave him her card number. After the call, the whole family discussed this plan as compared to another, and she decided to cancel. The rep then rudely accused her "Are you fighting with your family?" and wouldn't let go when she assured them no. Joel came back on. He was bullying,... Read More
Don't buy this system. They take advantage of elderly people. I signed a contract. I pay $79.00 a month. I tried to cancel but was told I had signed three year contract and unless I die I cannot cancel.
I signed up with Life Alert for my dad I asked 3 times if there was a contract know you can cancel anytime you want anytime or I never would have gotten the service so I call to cancel today I think we're in the three-year agreement he's got one more year to go this is fraud I'm going to I'm so upset right now. I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau on this because we went to a different provider so I'm just going to give feedback to not use Life Alert they lied to you and I'm so mad
They may be OK, but they are expensive. But what I don't like is how they present themselves. I'm sure they have set prices for their various packages. I don't see why they can't just publish their prices, rather than this long, drawn out "sales pitch". It really sounds like a scam!
What a scam! I agree with the lady who said she usually checks things out but she was thinking with her heart and not her head... ditto! And why do they only charge 29-59/month? We pay $89.65/month - and the adhesive on the bathroom Help button couldn't hold the button. It fell into the trash where it was thrown out - the rep told me they'd send someone out to replace it but no ... they were going to charge $95 for the replacement!!! After 2 months of no bathroom button Life Alert finally agreed to send out a technician to reinstall supposedly at NO Charge! But ... sure enough ... I've been charged $65 causing problems in my checking account. Will they refund the money?... Read More
DO NOT USE LIFE ALERT! I wish I had seen these reviews before we signed up. I usually check out everything, but I was thinking with my heart rather than with my brain. I was scared and worried, and the reps took full advantage of that. We bought this service for my mother for our peace of mind and were more than happy to pay the fees, but little did I realize that I was on a contract. They lie. They said I could break the contract if it did not work. Do NOT believe anything they say about money back guarantees or anything else they tell you. My mother has dementia and will not wear any devices. We called to cancel and they are all about the money and not about caring about people... Read More
This company is horrible. I bought this for my Mom and she fell in the driveway and pushed the button and they did not send help because they were trying to talk with her on the box in the house. Then she was sitting in her house doing nothing and a whole bunch of emergency services roll up and she had done nothing to trigger it. She lives in a small town with a volunteer fire department and this is a strain on the town.
When I called life Alert - they first refused to cancel the contract and then after repeated calls they told me we have a binding contract and will only cancel it for a $400 dollar charge - They are terrible - do not do business with this company.

I am finding out how BAD this company is, DO check all emergency alert systems, Life Alert is the MOST EXPENSIVE and DOES the LEAST I DID NOT take proper attention at how pushy the sales people are, calling ALL HOURS to get me to sign up, my mom refused to get Life Alert, I am so sorry I did not listen to her. I went ahead and got the system of Life Alert for her and gave them my credit card to pay for it since my mom refused to pay for this service. NOW I CANNOT CANCEL I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS A THREE YEAR CONRACT They will NOT ALLOW ME TO CANCEL, they penalize a 6 month early cancellation fee. To me this is just too much money The equipment does not even do ALL they say... Read More
I recently called Life Alert and initially signed my mom on as a client and in order to save time but get a clear picture of my experience.. it was exactly like Myrna C (review of 5/21)
Pushy/abusive sales people
Quick to take your $$$$ (charged was on our card the next day)
Lack of communication between sales and tech support re: installation ( bizillion phone calls required)
Extremely difficult to cancel even when we did not yet receive the product. Several hours on phone.
I called after reviewing the website because I still had a couple questions. I ended up talking to a John Steele. He started through his long sales pitch, which wasn't needed since I reviewed everything on the site. I asked several times in a row to just ask a couple questions but he insisted he knew more than I did and that I should keep quiet. I then insisted once more that I would like to ask a couple questions because I'm looking to purchase for my 85 yr old mother. He cut me off and said if I wanted "Crap Alert" I could buy it at Walmart for $14.95, and otherwise could buy quality from him. I couldn't take his disrespect anymore and had to hang up. I ended up calling Medical Alert.... Read More
Tried to inquirer about getting this product for my Father. Was Told I had to wait for the brochure to get product information. I guess I was asking to many questions, The person on the other end hung up on me. I will not be using this company ever...
I called the company from website, a salesman named Robert gave me all particulars. I have always thought Life Alert was the leader in the business. I told him I'd call back after talking with my husband, and he kept selling the product, told me not to wait, and I signed up. The initial fee was withdrawn from my bank account within 24 hrs., which bothered me. I called back within the 3 day "Buyers Remorse" deadline, today, and told them I needed to cancel, since I am not working now, and we can not afford the $89.65/monthly for 3 yrs. I was transferred around, back to Robert, who was no longer my lifelong friend as he had stated when I initially signed up. Now he tells me I am wasting his... Read More
I happen to have one in my home, and it is the best reassurance I feel any individual can have if living alone just in case of any emergency possibly takes place...It is a God scent to me to have it, thank you Life Alert!~
I called LifeAlert to do some research for my husbands family. I spoke to a gentleman and told him I would pass the information to my husband's family and that I would not be the decision maker for this service. I was, unfortunately, put on a call back list to receive a number of sales calls. They had my home phone and my cell phone numbers and were calling me and leaving messages on both lines. When I finally answered a call from the number 818-380-2205 a gentleman tried to do a "guilt trip hard sale" on me. I immediately told him to take me off his calling lists and never call me again. I am now trying to figure out how to block these numbers from my phones.
Buyer beware! I asked about canceling when the contract ran out, and they said we could. However, they didn't say anything about the auto renewal. How do we get out of this nightmare?
I am a Senior Citizen and live on a monthly SSI of $1,230.00 per month. I am a Handicapped person and suffered a stroke in June 2015. On discharge from the hospital I was advised to seek a monitoring service, and was given a contact number of Life Alert Emergency Response. Inc. It took me awhile to call since I had to consider my finances. In July I was asked again by my physician to try to enroll in a monitoring service. My daughter who lives in Florida called Life Alert and they sent a representative over on 8/17/15 and gave me the contract to sign, contract number 683639. I was very ill after returning from the hospital that morning and looked at the long contract in small print. I... Read More

I would rate them a -10! I was checking out and comparing different systems and after talking to Life Alert they have hounded me to death even tho I asked them not to -- I will make my own decision. They are totally obnoxious and very pushy. Yesterday I received a mailing from them and by midday today two phone calls! UGH!!!!
My sister has had life alert for a couple years but they no longer meet her needs. She contacted them to cancel & was told she had to pay $180 to cancel service and had to pay that before they would give her an address of where to return the equipment. The supervisor in the contract department threatened to bill her $3000 for the equipment that she can't return because they won't give her the address. I called to find out about the "contract" & was told there is no contract but there is. They scam people and take advantage
I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. I ordered this for my mom and even though she is mentally unstable, I am convinced this monitor box sent her to the hospital 3 times in a month. She kept telling us the box was making noise and she panicked thinking it was indicating that she needed to get help - so she would call 911. I thought it was just her imagination about the unit going off. But after the 3rd trip to the hospital for panic attack, she told me that even the paramedics heard it. I called the paramedics and they confirmed that it went of 2-3 times while they were there. I called Life Alert to see how many times it had actually gone off, but they said it had NEVER... Read More
Had to click on a start but they don't even deserve that!No even one star!!!!! I am not even going to use them because customer service has been horrible!! I have been hung up on 3 times and all I did was ask to be connected to a extension!! I have not even been able to get a hold of my salesmen Brian to tell him that I am trying to return the box sent to me. There is only one main number and whoever is answering the phone these days is hopefully getting fired if I ever get a hold of anyone!!! How can I even trust this company with my Mom's life!!!! Very upset can't you tell????
Like most of the leading medical alert companies, Life Alert maintains its own certified monitoring center. This ensures that all calls are properly handled and its operators are properly trained to meet each emergency. Life Alert’s operators are instructed to stay on the line until emergency services arrive or until the situation is resolved.
